I desire a brown loafer. I cannot make up mind though. Please help a fellow forum member on the most difficult part of his day. ;)

I picked the 1st one, but I find loafers incredibly hard to fit.

So my real answer is: Whichever one is the most comfortable and fits you the best.
That's a good point and I find the same trouble with loafers because of a high instep, moreso on my right foot. I would have to order the G&G but they are consistent in sizing on all of their lasts and would do an instep adjustment on one shoe, which is what I need. The EG's are on a last that I have no experience with. However they are generally available and can be returned (such a hassle!). I can get a good fit with the 202 and 606 lasts from them but can't get settled with the 82 last. So a good fit from EG is more concerning to me.

It sounds like the G&G would be better fitting then based on the fact they're willing to do an instep adjustment for you.

I would go with that one.

Is almost perfectly classic and will always be in style.

On the other hand, will go in and out of style every 10 to 15 years.

Would going up a width altogether be possible?

I also have a very high instep which a charming lady at C&J in Manhattan many years ago referred to as my having "European feet". She suggested that simply going up a width would help me immeasurably in many cases. Time has proved her right.
F width in EG (their wide) is tough to find ready to wear. There's an online store in Italy that seems to carry all of their shoes in F width but they don't have a dark oak Piccadilly and even then, returns to Italy would give me heart burn if it didn't work. Even if that solved the instep problem it would probably generate a heel that's larger than I really want. I already find a normal width EG adequate in the heel. Sizing on loafers is tough. I recently sold a pair of normal width C&J because they were too tight on the instep.

I suppose the best way to do EG sizing on that loafer is to choose the best length and see if they can do an instep adjustment without an overly extortionate MTO fee.

Might I ask what you plan to wear these with? I ask only because both of these shoes, while beautiful have a very formal look to them and I have come to believe in loafers as a mainly casual shoe. True I have a pair of Edward green belgravia tasseled loafers that see very little use but my other loafers are Alden suede. Have you given any thought to a J.M. Weston 180? Or Alden shell. I apologize but I forget what you may already have.

I want to wear these sport coats and ties or a blazer and tie. They wouldn't be with suits. For those outfits I almost always wear my EG Dovers but wanted another option. I have a pair of Alden loafers but the instep kills my right foot. Too tight. I do have a pair of older C&J loafers that fit well, but they are more of a tan and I was looking for something in dark brown. I'll look up the JM Weston.

The Weston 180 is, I believe, the iconic loafer. Definitely more casual.
I think with a tie the loafers you chose are solid options. I see a lot of loafers with suits here in Dallas and it is really not my taste. But I think you can wear them well with tie and jacket. Really they are quite versatile but I agree with everyone that fit is king with loafers. I grew up wearing bass weejuns and similar and like them both in brown and burgundy.

I know tassels are not for everyone but I do think these are just about perfect.

Fit is always king. That being said those two loafers say two different things to me. The EGs say classic conservative style and magnificent construction and finish. The G&G pair imply an edgier more continental style with equal handiwork. Which do YOU like more? Will you wear them often after you get them?

I don't really know to be honest. They both look great but are vastly different from each other. The EG has a very traditional look and is just hard to criticize other than it's a little boring to me. The G&G is kind of cool because the apron is hand sewn and I just really like their shoes. A more continental style may fit better with where I am these days in dressing.

The Piccadilly is more to my liking, but that is only because it is closer to what a Trad would pick in a world with no Alden LHS. I recall a loafer by Santoni that was very similar to the G and G, but I think it is out of their rotation. It was Nappa and exquisitely comfortable.

I have 180s and the Carmina equivalent of the EG. Several of each. I will say that if you want 180s, best to go to NYC as getting a good fit takes work. They also take a lot of time to break in - but once done they are a joy. And bulletproof. I like both, wear with everything from denim to suits. No one cares about the formality any more and I travel to Asia ALOT.
