I purchased a Rolex Date Just last year and although it is a beautiful watch, I am getting a bit bored with it and would like something else to wear, especially on more casual days. Unfortunately another Rolex is both hard to come by and not in the budget for now. I am considering a Breitling Avenger or Super Ocean. Either one is fine for weekends but wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how either one would work with a business casual look. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have nothing against so called tool watches or chronographs... but the Avenger does not impress me favorably...it embodies most of the unfortunate elements of current watch design. The Super Ocean is better.

I wear a chronograph with most everything, but it is smaller and more...boring.

A sobering lesson from my life experiences, the Rolex and Tag Heuers sit stored in a safe, waiting to be passed on when the time comes and I find myself presently enamored with my Apple watch. It performs so many relevant functions that facilitate life's daily activities, it seems arguably indispensable. I just can't say that about the Rolex or the Tags. Also, we have the grim reality that as time grows shorter, the baubles mean less and less. Not meaning to be a 'Debbie Downer' here, but just wanted to point out that money is frequently better spent creating memories, rather than buying baubles. Just one mans opinion, I suppose! LOL. ;)

I know what you mean. However, I had an Apple watch but found myself sitting sitting in meetings constantly looking at my when I got an alert for incoming texts, emails and calls. Whenever I did so it seemed like I was checking the time because I wanted to leave the meeting so I stopped wearing it.

Since 1967 my one and only business casual and casual casual watch has been a Rolex Oyster, stainless steel, not very large, very plain, no date, has to be wound, $50 at the PX. To change up the look I switch out the striped or solid nylon straps from a selection I acquired circa 1970. It always feels correct. After buying a few replacement crystals I learned it was not good for things like flag football. Especially in this day and age of people turning to iPhones for the time of day unless, like Eagle, they have Apple watches, I think less is more, especially in the workplace.

I've had an Omega Speedmaster for 20 years, and I still look at it in awe. If you have the right watch, you'll be looking at it just as much as the Apple watch. That's the kind of watch you want. Nobody else can help you make that decision. The Datejust does look nice with a suit, better than either Breitling you mention. The Superocean would look better than the Avenger, particularly if you go with the 36mm size. Watches over 40mm don't work well with a suit.

Data point...I have a Patek Calatrava, a JLC Reverso, a Breitling Coltocean Auto, and an Apple Watch Series 6. The Apple Watch is far superior to all of them in usefulness and is worn daily. The others languish.

I, too, am a one-watcher (30 years with a Rolex Sea-Dweller), but if I added another, it would be distinctly non-Rolexish.

Breitling is kind of in that same category of watch (only aviation vs. diving), so if I wanted a "watch to work with business casual" I think I'd go for something like a leather strap with a sleek round or tank face.

If you're spendy (and I can relate), something like a Patek Calatrava or a Jaeger LeCoultre tank* watch would work.

(I just wear my Rolex with everything, even if it doesn't really work (tux), because, well... it's good enough for James Bond! That said, my wife has encouraged me to get a Breguet as a "dressy" watch. I'll accept it as a gift.)

DH

* The most classic "tank" is the Cartier - they created it in homage to the US liberation of Paris - but I don't feel like the Cartier style really fits the ethos of AAAC. But, it's another nice option!

I think the Cartier Tank is so classic it fits the ethos. Let's "ask Andy," because we can!

I have two Breitlings. While they are beautiful and accurate watches, they cost a fortune to repair and customer service from Breitling USA is atrocious.
Don't bother with Breitling USA. Julius at jdwatchworks.com in SF is amazing. Simple process to send them to him and have them returned. I've trusted him with my Breitling since new.

I have three watches that could be considered "higher end." They are all dive type watches and I enjoy them all. I could just never take to traditional looking and sized dress watches for some reason. Just a personal preference thing I guess.

A couple years ago or so I looked over the Breitling Avenger non-chrono models as well as a couple other watches that Breitling makes. One was the Seawolf and I don't recall the other. In short, they were certainly nice enough but I went with a 42mm Omega Seamaster instead and am very glad I did. If you are looking at a dive/sporty type of watch, for various reasons, I think you would be happier with what Omega offers.

Mine is on the rubber strap that it came with and I wear it with everything from wet suits (yes my dive watches actually see water and go diving on occasion!) to full three piece suits and it looks great and wears well with everything. However, I have most of my dress clothes made bespoke where size accommodations can be made so that may be something to keep in mind.

Either way, I sincerely feel the Seamaster models would be worth your time to look over. Of my three watches it has become the real favorite. Hope you find this a little helpful and good luck.

I have not owned one, but I would check out Ball watches.
Recently bought a Ball watch, about 6 months ago. popped open the back and regulated it.
Keeps better time than COSC standards.

Also at same time purchased an Armand Nicolet hand wind and a Baume and Mercier auto that keeps excellent time out of the box.

Yesterday rcieved a Hamilton hand wind with an H50 movement actually an ETA modified that boasts an 80 hour reserve. We'll see.
