No he does mean braces, he is from the UK . What we call suspenders in the US are called braces in the UK.

Honestly, I think the only way around it is to get your problematic trousers properly re-hemmed.

There's nothing wrong with wearing a belt if you can do it, especially with casual trousers. I wear braces or belts with my suits depending on my mood, as all of them are equipped for both.

In any case, Mike Petrik is right. Get those trouser hems shortened already!

Yes, shorten or wear them too long at the bottom, anything but pulled up too high. Welcome to the forum bbdu. I spent a few drunken days in Gairloch in October of 78 - not much else to do there, a I recall.

It's still much the same, a cinema visits every couple of months though.

I can't think of any other way but to shorten your pants. I have been having the same problem with pants. I have heard of vanity sizing on the waist but inseam sizing to make you feel shorter is beyond me. Welcome to the forum mate!

Just browsing as I am going to buy some new braces and started here. I was always led to belive suspenders were clip on and braces button on, on either side of the pond,no?

In the US, suspenders encompass both kind... Clip and button. Or so I've been told.

I don't think so, actually. Braces are the UK term for suspenders (which are something else altogether in the UK). I will say that some Americans (like me) often do use the term "braces" instead of "suspenders," though some others regard such usage by Americans as an unattractive affectation. That said, my sense is that Americans that do use that term would probably bristle at the idea of such usage embracing (couldn't resist) clip-ons. In other words, the minority of Americans who use the term "braces" would, in general, readily agree that "suspenders" is equally appropriate, but would not feel comfortable referring to clip-on suspenders as braces. That is just my sense though -- no science at all behind it.
