Bow Ties: More Trad than Long?

Gentlemen of the Trad persuasion: thoughts? The reason I ask is that a friend of mine recently sent about two dozen of his long ties to the Beau Ties Ltd. company in Vermont to have them "converted" to bows. He's become a devotee of the bow-tie; and I have to admit, they are sportier or, in a phrase, more Trad.
