So I ventured out to change my style a little in the casual department, black jeans..... the problem is I want a nice pair of black suede shoes, but alas, not much I can find. Are there other colours to partner tailoured black jeans with? I'm trying to be smart casual, just not street casual.

These are black roughout suede, which goes very nicely with jeans: Molton Black Rough-Out Suede
I was just thinking about this today (I happened to wander into a shop carrying Japanese selvage and pondered some very black jeans)... I would probably go Cheaney with a Chukka or Chelsea in their "black grain" leather (kind of another "suede-ish" casual leather).
Alden has a very nice black suede chukka on their Leydon last, though it has a leather sole (which may undermine your "casual" intent). Pricey at $600. But (very) nice.

I agree, ideally I was looking for a rubber sole for the colder and damper season. I've seen a couple of examples now, which are now on my list. I typically prefer a non rounded toe, almond shaped is fine... but the regular rounded shoe is not my preference. I'm going to buy a pair of suede and a black grained leather pair of shoes.
I've seen folks wear dark and light brown shoes with black jeans, but I'm not sure I can pull that off. The next is to decide on something to wear with the jeans, it'll be a shirt and jumper combo, but I am going have a casual and a little more adventurous look.
I think I could see a case for a colored shoe or boot, like dark red, but that's a whole other kind of look.
I was actually thinking black jeans, black boots, Breton stripe crew-neck shirt, and a pea coat (black or dark navy?). There's an iconic picture of Andy Warhol in black jeans (?), black boots, and a Breton top (he wears if with a black zip-up) which originally was my inspiration for a Halloween costume (as Andy Warhol), but when I sort of thought about it decided it was a good look; kind of vaguely French/nautical?

I just a bought pair at Banana Republic at their end of summer sale. Not sure if they still carry them but their website is showing black suede chelsea available.
