If anyone is from the New York area, would you be able to tell me the best place to leave things that will actually get to people in some helpful form (for example - Goodwill breaks up suits)?

Alternatively, if anyone around here likes listing on Trad Exchange / ebay, I have two large trashbags of suits, sport coats, sweaters and shoes that they may take.

For the last several years, I've donated to Housing Works on 2nd Avenue btw 64th and 65th. The stores seem pretty well run and I've read decent things about the organization.

That said, that's all I know (which means - as happens too often with charities - a major scandal could be about to break where they are stealing / cheating / etc. - you never know).

Years before, I would donate to Goodwill, but the stores were always in some state of chaos, so when Housing Works opened, I switched to them.
