I recently attempted to dye a pair of shoes myself, a nice pair of C&J's. The shoes were a bit too light colored for my wardrobe and I tried to achieve a "dark oak" shade. The shoes now look as though they have been covered in chocolate pudding. Are there any cobblers in NYC that can do good reconstructive/dyeing work? I know Jim's on East 59th St. between Madison and Park is well-known. What I want is a cobbler that actually knows his craft and appreciates quality shoes. This fiasco actually began when I took the shoes to be professionally dyed and they came back burgundy instead of dark brown. Hence my disasterous attempt to dye them myself. Thanks gents.
