OK, go easy on me, I'm fairly clueless when it comes to clothes, but I'm learning :)

I've always wondered if there was a "right" way to wear a belt. I've always worn them clockwise around my waist, but not because someone ever told me to, it's just what came naturally, probably because I'm right handed.

I've also noticed that my tech pants that have built in belts (I know! Probably not the ideal source for style information...) fasten with the end of the belt off to the right (although the buckling mechanism on those belts is on the left, since it's a double-D style ring fastener).

It seems like belts (especially leather belts) would last longer if I alternated between clockwise and counter clockwise, since they seem to stretch on one side fairly quickly (or maybe I need better belts) but I wouldn't want to commit a faux pas. Is it "correct" to wear a belt clockwise? Do women wear belts counter-clockwise?
