I recently bought a Barbour Ashby Wax Jacket.

I bought this for being a model identical to the Bedale but updated by BArbour and slimmer.

What is your opinion of his adjustment? On the shoulders it's perfect, it's an S and I think an XS would not fit into it, the problem is that I find it too long, I'm thinking of returning it ..

It's an outer coat, not a tailored suit or sport jacket. I want any such coat roomy enough to layer with enough room left over for a relaxed fit.

And because it's an outer coat, the length is also fine. The purpose of this coat is to fit over your other clothing and protect you in inclement weather. If you buy a thigh length coat, that's what you want. Maybe you could wear a short if they made one, but I wouldn't want it.

Nice coat!

If you go to the Barbour web site the jacket on the model ends about where your bottom button is on your jacket. Going by that then the jacket is too long.

Personally for me the jacket is the right length as it covers your butt which can make a HUGE difference in comfort and for sitting down outside in winter. Other than the sleeves I think its a good fit. You don't want it too tight. There's nothing worse than an overcoat that inhibits movement especially in the armpits.

Think about how and when you are going to wear it and if you're still unhappy send it back while you can.

Yes the underarm is perfect with layers until it gets a little tight to wear, it could never be a smaller size. But in the length was only less than 1cm so I find the perfect coat, I hate when it is left .. Even more me being a thin person, I like a slim fit look ..
On the other hand you can protect me more in the winter rain, but the most important thing is always to feel good in it and look in the mirror and like it ..
I am honestly undecided whether to return it or not.

Just another question.
I had the idea that the coat was made in England, but he's not saying anywhere where it's made, I've seen it on every label. However I inspected the jacket to the promenor and it seems to me to have good finishes.

I sent an email to bArbour, asking which Country it was made in, I'm waiting for an answer.

From what I've gathered through my own observations is that Barbour's core and more heritage models (Bedale, Beaufort, etc.) are still made in England.

They have a variety of seasonal jackets and other gear that are made off shore.

If it's made in England, it will say so on the label afixed to the lining. If you don't see it there, odds are it's made in Romania or someplace like that.

The Ashby is not UK-made. Probably made in some Eastern European country.

I think it fits great (I have a Bedale, amongst others...). The length of your jacket is not nearly Border-length, and "just" long enough if you end up wearing the jacket over a sportcoat/suit (which I've done on numerous occasions). As far as sleeve length, the same applies. When worn in the rain I greatly prefer the longer length, it keeps the water off my sleeves. I think it looks solid.

Good luck trying to wear an Ashby over a suit or sport coat. Not nearly enough room to do so comfortably. But that's ok, it's not what it's made for. That's why there's the Beaufort.
