After a hiatus while trying to find shoes to accommodate an orthotic, I took a chance on Alden tassel loafers in a size and width larger than what I had traditionally worn. I then put a thinner orthotic off the shelf into the new arrival. I finally found a seconds sale through Shoemart and they arrived today. Glad to be back into a fine shoe that fits my style and my foot.

Congratulations on this great purchase, Tom! I am pleasantly surprised that with the orthotic, you managed to find a comfortable fit with these shoes.

It sounds as though you have had some experience even before this purchase with Aldens seconds sold by Shoemart. Are these shoes visibly marred in any way? Does Alden or Shoemart specify why a given pair is deemed seconds?

I actually got an orthotic "like" insert from Kelly Allisons site which has a good arch, a metatarsal insert is leather covered and is not too thick and thought it might work. It does. I've bought several Aldens from ShoeMart over the years and have really never found what caused the shoes to be seconds. There is absolutely no visible marking etc. and there is no indication from Alden or Shoemart for the classification. Really pleased to be back into a confortable and satisfactory loafer. Finding the right size in the Shoemart notificaitons of seconds is key and sometimes you have to wait till the one you want comes up on that list. Thanks, Tom

It is the Burgundy in the Aberdeen last, which I have worn in the past in both calf and cordovan. Hoping these will serve me well for the rest of my days.
The tassel loafer on the Aberdeen last is my favorite shoe by Alden, and the Burgundy hide just perfect!

No doubt they will serve you as long as you wish. (y)
