Been awful quiet around here for the past days! Heat affecting anyone?

Landscapers finally made in, only a month after they missed their Memorial Day estimated arrival. Shrubs look nice, and lawn never looked better. Laid some firewood out on the deck for a fire in the chiminea. Frig has plenty of beverage (shall it be Guinness or scotch?). Just got a box of Ashtons to try. Only question will be what background music (SWMBO's decision is more what snacks she will want). Tomorrow is dock re-building day (if it doesn't rain, though we'll probably fall in and get wet anyways).

Here's to a safe and enjoyable weekend to one and all!

The wife and I are looking forward to some rain showers predicted for this weekend, hoping they will serve to knock back the intolerable heat index levels that have been haunting us for the past couple of weeks! If such should occur, should the relief be considered a minor luxury or perhaps just a small mercy? :icon_scratch:

Today temperatures are finally tending towards summer. July and August will likely be 'warm' and then it will be back to the blessed gloom of the PNW. I really am glad I moved here.

I agree completely, Sarge. The PNW is wonderful. Mary and I met in Salem in the 1970s, and we still miss it. Sadly, economic forces and family ties took us to Texas, and as wonderful as it is, we miss the tranquility of Oregon weather and forests, the incredible seafood and produce, and the ocean and mountains. However, our son is autistic and after many years on waiting lists he now gets assistance. If it weren’t for that we’d be in western Oregon in a heartbeat!

Texas weather continues to be cooler than usual, with highs in the lower nineties, but the long range forecast is to return to and exceed average. That sounds ominous. I have two big outdoor projects to tackle, and doing them in hundred-ish weather sounds like a formula for things to become awfully quiet here.

It's been quite here for the past couple of weeks, but tomorrow our grandsons return from a two week wrestling clinic in SE Missouri. The "quiet" is going to have to take a day off as we will have to party hearty on the 4th to celebrate our Independance Day and the return of the young gladiators! :amazing:

It's pretty much always quiet here in the Cabin on the Corner, unless the poodle is telling me someone is coming. However, a neighbor cut down a tall, thick alder and gave me the trunk in three pieces--three long pieces. So I had them taken to a mill and today they were cut into 2" live-edge slabs--twenty-three of them! After they've air dried for a couple of years I should enough beautiful, red lumber for projects enough for the rest of my life. It could get somewhat noisy about that time . . .

Indiana got hot in a big hurry, but remains stormy. There was a tree down on the neighbor's garage. Then there was a guy up there with a chain saw. I could imagine SO many ways to maim or kill oneself doing that. I'm sure it will not be quiet Thursday. And the dogs will not be happy about it.

Here is Pennsyltucky, we've been in a constant rain season for much of late spring/early summer. As today is July 3rd, fireworks have broken the silence for the past few evenings, but will increase dramatically later tonight. Not bothered by them at all, but the poor, house beagle sure is. At first blast, she seeks me out, crawls under my legs, if I'm in a chair. If in bed, she crawls under the bed on my side. Funny thing is, she only does this inside-outside she's fine!

Won't have much to do at my plant today, so I suppose I'll take a drive to our hunting cabin (about 25 miles), just to take a ride. If SWMBO wants, she can navigate, and then find some elkburgers, a bit north in Bennezette, Elk County, PA.

Life is good!

Update on the wood. Alder needs to be steam kilned to retain it's lovely red color so I am making arrangements . This means I'll be happily sawing and sanding a year and a half earlier than originally foretold. Anybody interested in coffee tables?

I've never worked alder and know nothing of its grain, but, to save your lungs, shall I send you a smoothing plane along with a card scraper?

Oh, I have them already.l However, my shop sports a 1 1/2 horse dust collection system. Installing that was . . . interesting.
