There is style and there is fashion.
That coat exhibits you a master of style, not a slave to fashion.
I have the same!!

Went to a farmer's market this weekend in Brooklyn with my fiancée when she graviated to a booth that sold thifted clothing. She spotted a London Fog balmacaan in stone that is exactly my suit coat size. Late 60's - early 70's (according to the seller) with a zip in liner and made in the USA. Picked it up. I'm loving it! I wouldn't have gotten it if you didn't post this on Ask Andy. I guess I had balmacaans on the brain. I've been dropping some weight and my old Misty Harbor trench coat is getting too big. Thanks.Bought this beauty on eBay. Went through several (Burberry, London fog, etc) that were either too big, too short in the sleeves, or the wrong material (I don’t like the heavy cotton raincoats) I think I finally nailed it. Brooks Brothers, 40L, poly/cotton,slightly past the knee (think Columbo)
Wife thinks it’s God awful and that I look like “someone from an Alfred Hitchcock movie” which made me smile because I love old movies! Lol
Anyway, are these style raincoats really “old fashioned? I don’t think so, but I wanted to see what the cognoscenti here think. Thanks!

Awesome, glad to have ‘helped’ as it were. By all means, please share a pic of your new coat. Would love to see it.Went to a farmer's market this weekend in Brooklyn with my fiancée when she graviated to a booth that sold thifted clothing. So, I guess I have THE coat. I'm feeling lucky. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket in this season of good fortune? That was THE coat to have in high school. I was class of '67.
I’d vote for a mackintosh from Mackintosh or CordingsIf I can hijack this thread…if I wanted a longer raincoat, what’s the best style to get? I’d prefer simple vs. busy. I love my Barbour and Baracuta but would like something longer for work.
I would look for a used Aquascutum. If I can hijack this thread…if I wanted a longer raincoat, what’s the best style to get? I’d prefer simple vs. busy. I love my Barbour and Baracuta but would like something longer for work.
My Grenfell comes to just below the knee and is a very traditional raincoat. If I can hijack this thread…if I wanted a longer raincoat, what’s the best style to get? I’d prefer simple vs. busy. I love my Barbour and Baracuta but would like something longer for work.

Suits you very well actually. Do keep us updated with different styles you will try with it.I have a Burberry trench, yes with the belt and epaulets, which I bought 40 years ago. It still looks magnificent. I bought it one size too large to be worn over a suit. As I'm retired it hasn't been worn in quite a while as I don't stand/walk much in the rain anymore to catch a bus, train, cab, or plane, but when I did wear it I always wore one of my fedora hats to complete the classic look.
I’ve been wearing my coat often lately, as it has been grey, and rainy. I’ve been loving it! The only thing I wish it had was a liner, but it’s great, I just layer up. Sharp looking, and easy to care for as its “wash and wear” 🙂Suits you very well actually. Do keep us updated with different styles you will try with it.
