Because of my size (17*37) 6'6" I get all of my clothes made for me. I used mohan in NY and the shirt guy in the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. Now I need a great shirt and suit guy in DC.

I have searched all of the forums and have been a member here for quite sometime, so I figured I would explain what I want.

I need a great shirt guy, I am used to spending up to 150 a shirt (I was very happy with Mohan quality). I also need a sport jacket and suit guy and would prefer to not spend more then 1500 a suit. I can get my own fabric if that makes such a difference. I know about the saville guy in Georgetown, but his prices are a wee high.

Perhaps we can create a single comprehensive list of top tier DC shops and visitors that need to be looked at.

You can get mtm shirts made from Thos. Mason Silverline cottons for $125/per from the www.mytailor.com folks.

They have a rep (not Joe Hemrajani himself) who visits several sites in the DC area more or less monthly. See site for sched.

For suits in your price range, have you considered English-American out in Westminster, MD?

+1 for English American. Their shirts are somewhat inconsistent IMO, but the suits are great!

At that price range, you are not going to find anything, but visiting tailors or English-American.
I've always wondered about them. Do they actually allow you to go into their factory/shop to get measured to purchase a suit or shirt? Or do they only sell via a 3rd party retailer?

Yes, I believe you go to E-A's Westminster, MD, facility, which doubles as a Tom James location.

The contact person is Elio:

Another idea would be to drop in to see Craig at Wm. Fox on G near 15th. They are a Samuelsohn retailer and I believe may be able to do Samuelsohn MTM. It's a great shop, worth visiting for the ties alone.

Yep, and the only local place I've found with Hilditch & Key shirts.

Check the Hall of Fame for city-specific entries. I currently live in DC and the general consensus is that William Fields is by far the best custom tailor around. There are a handful of others (Georges, Linea Pitti, Christopher Kim) that aren't even in the same ballpark. If you need shoes, Sky Valet - right next to Fields - is the place to go. They sell Aldens, Loakes, Greenes, etc.

EDIT: Oh, I think by "The Savile Row guy" you meant Field. My mistake. In that case, I say go with English American.
