I must admit, I'm slightly enamoured with this raincoat. What is your opinion, guys? Could this be worn with the rest of my wardrobe which is trad. I'm an architect, so I understand it's a bit artsy, but you should see what some of my colleagues wear...!

Nothing wrong with this coat. I like its simplicity very much. Looks like it will go with almost anything. That is saying a lot in my book. I do hope, however, that it is at least 50% cotton...

70% - I have to agree. The only thing that I thought twice about was the slanted pocket. Bought it anyway!

It's styled a bit differently from standard raincoats -- as you say, the slanted pocket, and also the collar and lapel based on what I can see. (It could be that they are just not straightened out). But Iagree with Fred, even someone who likes very trad clothing would find it all right.

You might want to take in the sleeves a tad -- just my opinion.

Snow Peak. It's a Japanese brand founded in '58 I think - used to focus on outdoor goods but now they sell traditional Japanese clothes with updated and upgraded materials. They have some very trad outdoors wear and wax jackets that imo rival Barbour.

The clothes I have bought from them, while expensive, are lifetime quality. I can see them being handed down generationally. That raincoat is coated with pine resin and wax, for example. Sustainable, minimalist, well made, what more could you ask for? Their OCBD's are AWESOME, too.

Thanks for sharing. The Japanese are indeed doing some (a lot, actually) amazing work. Not directly on point, but I kept my 1991 Acura Integra LA for 26 years. If I live to be 125, it will still be the best car I have ever owned.

On point: Bought a Beams suit this past summer during the Mr. Porter sale. Incredible navy glen plaid worsted-like fabric. Cut a bit slim, but my tailor is a magician. Single reverse pleat on the trousers. 3/2 roll on the jacket. Removed belt loops and added side tabs. Innocence and mayhem at once. Sorry couldn't resist.

I have to admit, many of the British and American heritage brands have seen a considerable reduction in quality. On the whole, Japanese brands tend to have exceptional craftsmanship. I love Beams, too.

Do you know of any others - have you heard of VAN?
