Shell, as has been oft observed, rolls rather than wrinkling, and calf wrinkles. That was the conventional wisdom, but now that Chromexcel is being used more widely, I am not so sure. Chromexcel seems to roll rather than wrinkle. Here is my entire set of shoes other than jogging and boots. The tassels are shell, the LHS are Chromexcel and suede, and the camp mocs and bluchers are Chromexcel. All have years and miles on them. If wrinkles were going to show more, I would have expected it by now.

PS...I never thought the suede would wrinkle. I just included them because I like them and did not want them to feel neglected.

Some call the wide variability “the CXL lottery”. I have one pair that rolls and creases! But I don’t think I have a pair that only rolls. My most dress style (Alden PTB) is the most lightly creased of all, and I have no idea if it’s luck or if they used the higher quality pieces vs the more casual shoes and boots. All of my non-handsewn CXL is lined.

CXL varies between hides more than any other shoe leather I've found; some rolls, some wrinkle. It also stretches quite a bit IME.
I agree on the stretch. I figured when replacing LHS the pliability of CXL beat the extended break-in of shell. I am lucky, I guess, that it worked out so well.
