Evening, gents. Looking for a little advice from the AE experts here: I'm thinking about getting a pair of Dalton boots but am vexed as to what size to get--9.5D or 10D. I know they're on the 511 last, which is based on the 7 last. (I don't have a store near me, but I prefer shopping online anyway.)
I usually wear a 10D in AE shoes, especially on the 65 last. I have high arches and a fairly narrow heel, compared with the ball of my foot. (The other shoe barely has enough room.)
My 10D Lexingtons are super comfortable but do have just the slightest bit of extra room in the heel and forefoot--but I never notice it unless I think about it. My Burtons are also 10D, as are a pair of four-eye laceups whose model name I've forgotten. (They're sitting at work, so I can't check.) The only 10D shoes I own that are too big are the Aberdeens, and I know they're an outlier. (I installed some felt tongue and heel pads and wear heavier socks with them.)
My Park Avenues are size 9.5D (also on the 65 last), and one shoe is slightly too snug near the ball of the foot.
If the 9.5D is on the snug side, and the 7 last is slightly roomier from ball to heel than the 5 last, then does that mean I'm better off getting 9.5D in the Daltons, since they would have extra width built in?
