Lovely shoes but they didn't fit, so back they went. Next up I'm being sent these in suede:

If that doesn't work out I have to be in NYC in Mid Nov, and I'll go to one of the AE stores and try on shoes until I find a pair that fits.

AE seemed more helpful this time, more patient.

That Quinton is a nice looking shoe! Actually, I like both.

I'm surprised that fit has been a problem. I have always had foot trouble, and wear very pricey custom orthotics. That is, I did until a few years ago, when I got my first pair of AEs on Ebay. Since then I have acquired about a dozen, 7 or 8 used for about $35, with 4 or 5 new pair thrown in. I now have an excellent range of shoes, and buy in complete confidence--if it is an AE in size 9, then I know I'll be fine. And I only wear the orthotics on occasion now. I must admit that loafers, including AE, are a bit more demanding when it comes to fit because if it is too tight it hurts, and if even a smidge too loose, then it slips in the heel. Is that the sort of problem you had with the Burkes?

Too tight. And in my experience if I order an E width then my ankles slip out of the shoe. My usual procedure is to buy a D, wear it in my office without socks for weeks, then wear them with thin socks, then, often have them stretched a bit. I'm willing to do this with inexpensive shoes, since sometimes it doesn't work, and I have to give the shoes away, but I didn't want to try with loafers for $250.

Quinton in suede looks good. I have a similar fit issue with bals. I buy a narrower "C" AE and then have the front stretched one width by my shoe guy. That way, I get an "A" heel with a "D" front. Has worked well for me. YMMV.
