This may be a little convoluted since I'm asking people to weigh two boots against one another, but to do so with an eye toward a third boot. I shall try my best to use language effectively...

I'd like to purchase a pair of cordovan wing-tip boots. I own Alden 403s. The Alden feels like a very heavy shoe to me. It's also one that hurts my back without using a 3/4 insole -- very jarring.

I'd never owned or considered an AE shoe until today. I tried on a pair of their Whitney brogues and was absolutely blown away at how comfortable they are! I was expecting them to be heavy and uncomfortable, instead it was like wearing a pair of Eccos. It was an easy purchase decision.

Back to the boots, I'd expected to purchase a pair of the Alden cordovan wing-tip boots, until trying on the AEs today. But, despite my personal affinity towards Alden, I think that I may chuck that idea entirely and go AE (once they go on sale).

Which brings me to the parenthetical in this thread... If you own the Dalton, how do you think they feel relative to your Indys? And, did you consider the Alden wing-tip boots? What swayed you?

P.S. I did not try a Dalton on, as I need a special order size.

^^Well, for what it's worth, I bought both and I eventually passed the AE Dalton's on. The Alden Wing tips were, IMHO, by far the preferable footwear...more comfortable on the foot and better looking.

Thank you! Anecdotes are helpful here.

It just may be that I'm better off going with the Alden (which I assume is going to be a better quality shoe) after all. And ensuring that I select a size that will accommodate an insole. I'll probably need to drive down to Connecticut to the Shoe Mart for this...

You may get a better response by providing pics of the boots in question in your first post instead of asking folks to look it up.

This is from personal experience and not a criticism.
Sure. But I assumed that if someone bought one or the other they'd know what their purchase looks like :)

I'm not really looking for opinions on which people think look better as much as I'm interested in experiential input from people who own one or the other.
