Alden LHS shoe order question

I'm committed to purchasing a pair of of Alden LHS cordovan loafers. My dilemma is that no one in town carries this style in cordovan. My menswear shop carries Alden, but not cordovan. I'm concerned over fit. I've heard most indicate they purchase a half size smaller than normal.

Here is my question. Is it too much to ask for them to order a couple of pair in two different sizes to get it right? Considering they don't normally carry $550 shoes in inventory, will they be stuck with a pair of shoes? I'm not a super-frequent shopper, but have purchased some nice items from them.

Thanks.

It's been discussed here ad nasuseam, but....

The pair of lined Alden LHSs I own, I wear in my true size (11D), but my unlined Alden Brooks LHSs are a 1/2 size down (10 1/2 D).

You could always use an online retailer that a lot of guys here use, get your true size, and if they don't fit, exchange them for a 1/2 size up or down. Do remember though, most folks won't do an exchange if the shoes have been creased. That could be an option if there isn't another brick and mortar store near you.

I don't think it's too much to "ask", but it might be too much to expect. All you can do is let them know your concerns, ask if that's a possible solution, and see what they have to say.

Shell Aldens are expensive, and at least for the the LHS is hard to fit, so I think your concerns are valid.
I agree, it really depends on your particular store. If I owned it, I would certainly do all I could to please the customer.
