Got this question from one of our Facebook followers.

Wondering if we can help him?

The Question

I need your professional feedback on the best choice between these 2 suits.

I want to purchase the Dark Navy Blue Suit from one of these two custom suit makers:

https://www.indochino.com/product/highbridge-dark-navy-suit

For $499

OR
https://propercloth.com/…/allen-navy-s130s-herringbone-suit…
For $895

Which one is the better quality suit?

I will wear the suit daily for work at the office - so that's approximately 255 days of being worn. Which one should I purchase, in your expertise?

Thank you!

So he thinks he wants to order a custom-made suit online? I'd say no on both counts. Check out that sale at Brooks...
One has to be impressed with the marketing talents of these retailers. Lost in the choice between 2 questionable options is that no one has told our fine "Facebook follower" that he needs more than one suit (even to start). "255 days a year" would challenge even legit MTM or bespoke.

I second the BB idea. He'd even be better off going to Nordstroms and then investing in a good tailor. Where does he live? And yes, 1 suit should not be worn 255 days a year.

Thank you gentlemen for your sage advice thus far.

I've share a link to this thread so the individual who asked the question (Patrick) would be able to see everyone's responses!

I would urge passing on the online options, either of them.

I also agree with the above assessment; wearing a single suit 255 days a year would require the work horse of work horses. Accounting for weekends, holidays and ones personal and vacation days, that’s just about every day you show up to work.

Brooks Brothers would be my choice as well. The 1818 suits are meant for business and meant for wear. I’m afraid the choices above would fall apart in short order. If you must, go with the cheaper one and get two.

Also, I’m forever leery of 130 and 150 fabrics from unspecified mills. Given the prices, I doubt these are made with premium fabrics, lending more caution as to the overall durability under the conditions described.

Neither.

Spier & Mackay is the best value suit I've seen in menswear, free return with paypal.

$300 for a regular suit, $600 for full canvas.

If you're a first time buyer you can get a 20% discount from yours truly. I then get $20 credit.

Basically you can get an OTR full canvas suit for $480.

Have you bought any of these online?

@delicious_scent @smmrfld - We had technical problems with the site yesterday, and lost data when we had to recover the forum from our latest back-ups.

Are you kidding? I posted a picture of Jimmy Hoffa holding the Lindbergh baby! Now I can't find it.

For a second I though you were going to refer to couple of characters who's monograms were S& V.
You know I too lost a photo posted during this malfunction, one of me as child being nestled in T. Roosevelt's arm while he was horseback.

A treasured photo now lost to the Ethernet.
