Thought I'd share a couple of recent purchases that are proving to be particularly enjoyable:
- Uniqlo Airism Micro Mesh Undershirts: I experimented with standard Airism undershirts a few years ago, and it was a terrible experience for me. I'm a sweatier guy than I'd prefer to be, and regular Airism shirts captured all my sweat and held it close to me for hours like some deranged personal assistant. Micro mesh is a totally different experience; it feels impressively cooling, and even when I did sweat, it seemed to magically dissipate very quickly. They don't seem to hold scents, either.
The low v neck, beige coloring, seamless edges and ultralight weight make the shirts completely disappear under even light colored and low buttoned shirts, while still providing nice nipple and chest hair coverage. Despite being mostly nylon, the shirts are soft and drape comfortably. An overall perfect undershirt for my tastes!
- Jay Butler Loafers: I've searched for the perfect casual burgundy loafers for years. I can't live with barely passable Cole Haan or Bass options, and Alden LHS are just too precious for an item I want to knock around in. The closest to perfect before now was the AE Cavanaugh, but the leather seemed to not hold coloring consistently and seemed to constantly sustain unbuffable scratches, and the overall styling was a bit too stodgy to work with shorts. Enter Jay Butler Cromwell Pull Up Leather Loafers.
The leather isn't as thick as the AEs, but it's much richer in color, and seems much hardier. Tons of wear has just resulted in what I'd call a delightful patina. The last and the sole design has a sleekness that makes them work equally well with both socks and chinos and sockless with shorts. However, the sleekness doesn't fall into being too fashion forward, they still exude a classic look.
I'd prefer flat straps instead of beef rolls, but the rolls are growing on me, I must say. Overall quality is just fine for the price, and they're super comfortable from the get go.
I don't hear much about Jay Butler around these parts, so I hope this encourages folks to give these wonderful shoes a try.
