I recently purchased a tuxedo made of a medium shade gray material.
What color should the accessories such as cumberbund, bowtie, shoes, etc. be?
Black, As I assume the lapels and trouser stripe are black.

How about a picture to make sure we are talking about evening wear and not a gray morning coat (which would be day formal)

I think you've already violated the basic rule ....

of formal dress in purchasing a tuxedo which would likely be found at a high school prom. Since you don't have a black or midnight blue tuxedo, your accessory selection wont matter much, but why don't you go for a pair of white patent leather shoes?

Excuse Me!

Well excuse me! I simply bought this "tux" (its a Pierre Cardin) to use for less formal occassions such as attending the symphony or Broadway plays. It has really looks like a gray suit but it does have a contrasting gray stripe on the pants legs and the single button on the sleeve is covered, etc.
I thought I might wear it with a regular tie and simply be one step up from a regular suit.

eissal,

Check out www.blacktieguide.com. It's a fantastic resource for information about formalwear.

Most of the people who participate in this forum adhere to fairly conservative, traditional notions regarding men's clothing, hence the tepid reaction to a gray tuxedo (black and midnight blue are widely considered to be the only appropriate colors for a traditional, classic tuxedo).

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Aaron

I'm unclear on your question. You'd like to wear it as a regular suit with a long tie, or as a dinner suit with a cummerbund and bow tie?

Gray tux

(1) the lapels are notched
(2) Actually I was hoping I could dress it up with cummerbund, etc. or wear it with a tie like a regular suit.

I have read that black shoes do not go with a gray suit so I was wondering about what color the accessories should be.

The jacket has potential for use with a stroller, which is the daytime equivalent of a tuxedo. Ideally, it would have peak lapels, but this would do.

You would just need hickory stripe trousers and a vest, which could be either a lighter gray, buff or fawn colored. Add a white dress shirt and a nice necktie with a black/gray/white pattern, and you're in business.
