Hi Gents,
I've been wondering about this for some time. It is often said here that the "rule" about wearing white or linen before Memorial Day (or Easter) is basically rubbish, and one should dress for the weather, not the calendar. This makes perfect sense to me.
However, at the same time, 6 pm seems sacrosanct; only wear light colored clothes after 6 pm if you don't have time to change, no black tie before 6 pm, etc. However, 6 pm in August in Florida is very different than 6 pm in New York in February. Shouldn't the "rule" really be, "Dress in light clothing from sunrise to sunset, and dark clothing from sunset to sunrise, unless you have no time to change."? Dress for the light, not the clock.
Thoughts?
