6:00 pm and wearing white before Memorial Day

I still believe white should be limited to summer and the tropics. Linen and other summer materials, however, can be more flexible as long as the weather calls for it. I'll still wear linen in late September if it's 80°F, but white really seems wrong unless I'm dressing for Yom Kippur (which is mid-October this year). Light-coloured clothes also aren't off-limits at night in warm weather. There is such a thing as the ivory dinner jacket. Black tie, however, should still be limited to after six, no matter what time of year. Otherwise black tie would never be worn in June or July in much of the northern hemisphere.
