Gents, for any of you who are comfortable in front of a camera, I'd like to do an experiment for our YouTube channel.

Would like to create a series of short style-tip videos and publish them on our channel.

Three important restrictions:
  • They must be 55-seconds or under
  • They must be shot in vertical format (portrait)
  • Vids need to be high resolution (not shared via text message)
For anyone with an iPhone or Android, the above should be easy to do. Vids can be selfie-videos (you holding the phone and taking a vid of yourself).

ANY STYLE-RELATED TIP (SHOES, JACKETS, SHIRTS, PANTS, COLOR MATCHING, ETC.) IS FAIR GAME.

Q&A

Q1. Are we permitted to mention brand names?
A1. Yes!

Q2. Can spouses/partners appear in the videos?
A2. The more the merrier :) Yes!

Q3. Is there a standard intro at the top that we should be using?
A3. Not specifically, but if you wanted to do some quick intro, you could do something like "this is {your member name or your real name} for/from Ask Andy About Clothes, and one of my favorite style hacks is...". Doesn't have to be that exactly, whatever feels natural

Q4. Do you have a sample of a video so I can see exactly what you are looking for?
A4. There is no exact requirement outside of what is outlined above. We haven't ourselves done this before, but you may be able to find some examples on Instagram stories, or TikTok. While we will not specifically using these short videos for TikTok, here is an example of some vertical-shot videos to give you a sense of how they could be done. The particular example is related to men's cosmetics, but it should give you an idea of the concept.

Q5. So basically you want us to provide any style tips that we've found helpful or that we think would be helpful to others?
A5. 100% -- one tip per video ideally so it provides value.

You can share them with me here:
https://www.dropbox.com/request/QVSdtlBJNYO5RjMIjOgu

If you have trouble sending them there, please let me know.

Any takers? Questions?

A decade ago, definitely. Five years ago, probably. Two years ago, maybe. Today? Nah! Though I still work every day, my office is located in a warehouse building several miles from my manufacturing plant, with only ne other, sometimes, around. I have gotten used to being comfortable, with that sort of comfort not photogenic!

I can try. Bit busy now, but I have to get "dressed up" anyways for work calls next week so maybe can integrate then.

Interested, what's the deadline?
So good to hear, and welcome to AAAC!

No specific deadline, but it would be great if we could start getting some videos within about a week if possible.

Of course, you can start with one (1) video, then if you want to do more, we'd love to have them.

This should be a fun experiment, especially if we can get many different AAAC members to provide their top style, style-hacks, or style-related tip videos :)

Wonderful!! Thank you very much.
I appreciate the opportunity! I'm no matinee idol of course, but I studied radio and television broadcasting so have done screen tests in the past. I'm comfortable enough on camera. I'd love to do a short piece on contrast-collar shirts, so dibs on that everyone. :D

Just a couple of questions;

1. Are we permitted to mention brand names?
2. Can spouses/partners appear in the videos?
3. Is there a standard intro at the top that we should be using?

This should be fun.

Prior to my retirement from the civilian side of government, at least for my last 13 years, I appeared on camera on more than a few occasions on evening news casts. Can't say I ever felt comfortable doing so...very stressful...but I followed orders. However, when it comes to computers, I just don't seem to have any aptitude for creating videos and sending them throughout Cyberspace. I'm sorry, but I won't be able to help with this project. In any event, good luck with the project...it is a great idea! :(

No worries Eagle, I completely understand.

While I do have the aptitude for creating videos, I can't personally participate in creating these particular videos for two reasons:

1. I loathe being on camera (video, photo, etc.) where you have to talk or look directly to the camera
2. I'm the last person to take style advice or learn style hacks from :)
