3-button suits and stout builds

[As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm just getting into the habit/lifestyle of dressing well.]

It seems that most of the suits I find these days (Marshall Field's, Neiman, Saks) are three-button models.

It had been my understanding that these look best on NBA players, or, if one is shorter, only trim men. Being neither a power forward nor trim (5-10, 199 7/8 lbs) my selection is very limited. Am I hopelessly out of style continuing to search for 2B suits? Do other men of my, um, stature, wear 3B with success? If so, are there any brands you could recommend?
