This is from another newb, so take it with a grain of salt, but I've had good compliments on corduroy jackets with all sorts of pants this winter - khakhis / chinos as well as grey wool dress slacks. Almost always with an ODBC underneath, but a few times a nice sweater.

I think the term and concept of dress pants is not universal, but rather generally understood in the U.S.A., as it's origin is in the U.S. RTW business, to mean better tailored trousers most often of wool as contrasted to jeans or cotton drill.

In that context, sure! Many flannels can look great. I even have a pair of gray P.O.W. flannels that look good. Gabardine and other twills such as covert cloth look good too. Many colors from the brown/tan and gray families of colors tend to pair well with colors often used for corduroy jackets.

I wouldn't. To me it is the same as pairing denim with denim. Not good.

I think the main problem w/ this pairing is that you'd have to be wearing a denim jacket to begin w/. Unless you have the sleeves ripped off and a patch on the back, that just isn't reasonable.

But, yeah, I see what you're saying... I will probably try the look anyhow once I find a corduroy jacket that I like. I find I like to match colors of my jacket and pants much closer than most so it might work for me.
