I absolutely hate the way necessary items ruin the drape of a suit or trouser. These days I find I can't leave the house without:

1. Cell phone (a relatively flat iPhone, front left pocket)
2. Small key ring (only 3 keys and a small mag-key fob, front right pocket)
3. Slim wallet (Kyono Slimmy, in the front right pocket)

On work days I carry a "supplemental" slim card case with work mag-key cards and work ID in it. This usually goes in a back pocket or slipped into a jacket pocket.

So far breaking up all these items into different pockets works fairly well. I am concerned, however, about wear in the front left pocket from the keys. I've been searching for a nice looking key wallet that won't create additional bulk, but have yet to find one.

How do you carry your keys and other necessary small items?

Inquiring minds want to know!

If I have belt loops, I usually hang them from the side-most or one of the back loops so they are hidden under a jacket. Otherwise I try to neatly put them in one of my jacket pockets.

I like to keep keys in my bag or blazer pocket, the same for wallet and phone. Only if I going to the shops, friend's etc would I keep my keys in my trousers/jeans.

Although in the spring/summer I would put keys, phone etc in my pocket when going out to lunch because I keep the blazer in the office.

If I am going out shopping, seeing someone, etc and am not wearing a jacket, I carry a small Dunhill travel bag.

I also carry my keys in my front right pocket. However, I only take with me the keys that I will need that day. On an average workday, this means the small key to my apartment building and the small key to my actual apartment. You can't even tell these keys are in my pocket because they are so small.

Thanks to public transportation, cabs, and walking, I do not have to worry about car keys too much living in Chicago.

Blackberry in the left lower suit pocket (often referred to as a card pocket?) I have mine reinforced so it doesn’t drastically change the drape or wear out.

Small card wallet for my cards (credit card, interac, license etc.) in my rear right pocket. This is extremely thin and you can’t see it (or feel it).

Cash in my right front pants pocket

Keys in either my left front pants pocket or in a jacket pocket. I only take the keys I need. House key only if I’m taking the subway to work. One car key as well if I’m driving etc.

As soon as I get to the office I put the keys in a drawer. Same goes with change whenever I get some.

I hate carrying keys. I carry only two: my ignition key (loose) and my house key attached to the zapper for the car. Attache case if I'm carrying one, coat pocket if I'm wearing one, pants pocket if I'm not wearing a jacket, left inside breast pocket if I am.

Vest pocket?

How about attaching it to a pocket watch chain and putting it in your vest pocket? I've never done that but you started me thinking. I believe that some trousers have a small button-flap pocket at the top center of one of the legs. Was this not originally for a pocket watch? Can it be used for keys? I'm always trying to apportion pocket contents to prevent scratching and scuffing said contents with keys, bulging of pockets, and for ease of retrieval. I know some have had suits tailored to include a cell phone (or other specific item) pocket not traditionally on a suit. Has anyone done this for keys?

I tend to put my keys in my bag, which I seem to always be carrying whether I want to or not. They can defiantly be a risk to fabric. I do have a smaller reinforced spot in my right front trouser pocket for a few odd keys if I don't have my bag.

I have also put an odd key onto the end of my watch chain with my fob in my front vest pocket. it does fit very well there if it is just one or two loose keys.

I carry a sterling silver key chain (in the shape of a coin) from Tiffany's.

My keys are:

  • House Key
  • Garage Key
  • Key to Work
  • Key to Private Office
  • Garage Key
  • Mailbox Key

Kind Regards,

Chase

In my hand--or a jacket pocket. Not a sport jacket. I have a ring with around 15 keys--3 cars, 3 houses, 3 different keys to my office and a few others. I carry the keys from a car to my house or office and toss them on a chest or my desk. Elsewhere, I leave them on the floor of the car and pocket the remote opener. More than a single key or two will eat holes in your pocket.

I keep my keys in my right coat hip pocket, in whatever is my outer layer at the moment.

Business cards go in the left outer pocket; pen and calendar/planner in the inner breast pockets. Cell phone in the inner ticket pocket. Wallet and handkerchief in the back trouser pockets, cash in the front trouser pockets.

Every day when I go to work, I have:

1) Wallet. Checkbook style, in front right trouser pocket or left coat pocket if I'm wearing a suit or sportcoat.

2) Cell phone. RAZR V3. Usually front left trouser pocket, or shirt pocket if I've been using it while driving.

3) Work ID and parking lot access badge - on my car door, in the indentation that one uses as a handle to pull it closed from the inside. Once used to access the parking deck, I clip it to my belt.

4) Keys. A Tiffany valet ring, which was very useful when I had more than one car. I never remember to remove the house keys when I actually use a valet. House keys on one side, car key on the other. In hand until I can throw it in my desk drawer, along with my wallet.

I would ordinarily say I "always" carry my keys in my right front pocket, but since rotator cuff surgery in September, resulting in my wearing a sling all day and all night, I'm now carrying just about everything in my left front pocket.

Still, it's better than getting caught outside of the office or car without my keys on me.

if im not going to need them the rest of the day i use a small pocket cut into the bottom of the waistband of my trousers. the opening is covered by my belt and, since i wear pleats, any small bulk from 3 keys is hidden immediately.

if i will need them a bit (or until changing to the scheme above) i use a small pocket sewn inside the right outside pocket of my jacket/sportcoat/etc or the right front pocket of my trousers. its possible your keys are too big for this, but ive found that while keys laying loose in a pocket will visibly change the shape of the garmetn, keys lying inside a small pocket that doesnt touch any of the edges of the big pocket are fine.

think of the small pocket above/inside the right front pocket on many jeans. while keys in the big pocket would surely bulge on your thigh, you cant really tell whether something is in the little pocket or not. if you just slid that pocket down to stop 1cm below the opening for the big pocket it'd b a perfect hiding place for keys.

Buy an Iphone... slim light and small.. I have my jackets pockets cut with an interanl space to hold it. You wouldnt be able to tell its there.
Employ the services of a house wife who always lets me in and negates the need for me to carry keys (she is of course given other responsibilities to fill her time with as well, not purely a doorman!! :icon_smile_big:)

Never carry coins in a wallet... have a card wallet with no more than 4 cards.

Then you are ready
