Duchamp make excellent quality clothes. I've got a few of their ties and a few pairs of cufflinks.

They are at the premium end of the market and I think they are an interesting choice for someone looking for something that little bit different! They have a great shop on Jermyn Street, London.

...and they do have more sober attire as well!

Yes Duchamp make some good stuff. The examples above are a little OTT and not necessarily typical.

I have three Duchamp shirts and ties ....

purchased last Boxing day on sale. They will have a sale at end of season wher you can save from 40% to 50%. All of their stuff is quality, but I had a problem with their St James double-cuff shirts (120, 2 fold). Their shirts run small in neck size, but the sleeves run long and they only have one size of sleeve length per neck size. I ordered my normal size (16" neck), but it was two small. I have bought a lot of Jermyn street shirts, and this was the first time a 16 did not fit. I had to return the shirt which cost me $17.

The replacement shirt and the two others fit very well (16-1/2 neck) but the sleeves were much too long. They put a gusset button on their shirts, so I almost ran out of room in shortening the sleeves. The shirts now fit well thanks to mt alterations person, but the gusset button is now a little less than one inch from the double cuff.

I got three shirts and three ties for 50% off, but their shipping charges are high, about $36. Also I had to pay duty since they ship UPS who charges duty plus a fee. So the 50% off savings was rapidly eaten up by excessive shipping charges, duty plus courier fee, and alterations charges by my tailor.

When they have another sale, I'd like to get some ties (38 bps on sale), but I doubt if I would buy any more shirts. Too much of a hassle, and the fit is not the best because of the gusset button problem. I would reccomend that you don't buy their shirts unless you are situated in the UK and can try them on before buying.

I like not tipical
Not necessarily typical meaning not necessarily typical of what Duchamp has to offer. Duchamp do push the envelope but their typical garment is not quite as flamboyant as the examples provided.

Incidentally, I think dfloyd is right about the fit. It's not the first time I've heard it mentioned.

As a safe starting point, their cufflinks are excellent.

As an afterthought on Duchamp....

their scarves are excellent and I bought 4 at 50% off. One scarf is unusual in that it is woven in silk which is an exact match of one of the shirts I bought. I generally don't like matched pairs (like tie and pocket square) but this scarf looks great when it is just cold enough to wear a scarf with a suit and no top coat. Had to pay duty on scarves, but at least there were no fit problems.

Duchamp socks are very interesting, but not for the conservative minded. Anyone have any experience with them? Sometimes socks which are woven pill badly. I have had this happen with expensive socks. At $35 per pair you don't want pilling (price of the ones which pilled badly, Negreni or something like that.)

I like their cufflink designs, but they all seem to be the push thru type. Unless the link is circular, these do not stay parallel to the cuff edge so they are always at some unpredictable angle. The toggle type prevents this from happening.

Their Socks

I have 3 pairs...2 I bought about 2 years ago, and one of them pulled a hole after about 6 months (maybe wore and washed it 6 times?) the other is just fine. I still wear the one with the hole (its on the heel and very small) with sneakers, as the patern is awesome and I can't bear getting rid of them.

The third pair I just got a few months ago, and are still like new.

duchamp

I love Duchamp. I never thought I would wear stuff like this but I started by buying their ties, then cufflinks, then socks and now shirts by them. Funny thing is that now most of my business contacts ask to see my socks almost every time I see them for meetings and I get tons of compliments on their shirts and ties. I get the impression that most folks love the look but just can't see themselves in it. I was that way too until I bit the bullet. Good thing I don't live in London I guess or I would spend way too much on Duchamp.

Got two shirts, 1 black raised diamond pattern FC, 1 lollipop stripe BC convertible. Both 16 1/2" neck slim fits but both fit differently. Black is slimmer fit. Both shirts get favourable comments, especially from women.

1 pale blue paisly tie as well. Bit stiff, will only take a FIH knot without looking ridiculous. Not had the balls to wear that one out yet.:p

Got on sale at deep discount (75%) with Harvey Nicks vouchers that I won from a local casino. Result :icon_smile_big:
