I'd heard of putting some aluminum foil under the pad of your ironing board a while ago but never tried it. The theory is that it reflects the heat and "irons from both sides". I don't think I'd go so far as to say it reflects enough heat to do that but surely it would reflect some. Yesterday I was looking up some tips on cleaning the sole plate of my iron and came across it again so decided to give it a shot.

I just ironed a shirt and I don't know if it's some kind of placebo effect but I definitely found the process to be more "smooth" for lack of a better word. It just seemed like the wrinkles came out a lot more easily.

So give it a try if you think it sounds like a good idea. Worst case scenario is that it does nothing.

the reflects the heat and steam back up to the fabric. great for removing wrinkles. but does the fabric dry out? i would try it myself but my sweet lady irons all my shirts and i dont want to deprive her of the pleasure.

Thanks for the tip! After the last ironing thread I decided to give it a whirl this weekend and iron a shirt rather than pay to have it laundered...I discovered that I will NEVER have to worry about a guy using me for my ironing skills!!
be careful he would use you for your tailoring skills.

I really don't know. I figure I'll try it for a little while and see how it goes. No problem to remove if I see it being harmful.

I posted this on StyleForum as well and someone suggested that because it would be covering the holes on the bottom of the ironing board, steam wouldn't be able to escape. I don't know how bad of an effect this would be.

Haha, my g/f isn't around a lot of the time cause we've been doing long distance for a while now (we were together for 4 years prior to starting long distance) but she always tells me she'll iron for me when she comes to visit. The thing is that I'm so controlling and particular that I want to do it for myself; my way. I have told her I'd show her how exactly I want it done. That could work cause I don't particularly love ironing. It boggles my mind that some people claim to find it relaxing. There are lots of other things I'd rather do - like watch her iron.

Wow, you gentlemen are lucky.

I've ironed my shirts for years as well as doing the laundry. The biggest mistake I made early in my relationship with my wife is volunteering myself for laundry duty (I have very precise fitting clothes and can't stand shrinkage and at 6'6" replacements aren't easy to come by). I figured I would rather control the laundry process then allow my wife to shrink my clothes (which she did when we first started dating).

As with anything though, my laundry detail has evolved into ironing my wife's clothes, pillowcases and other domestic staples in addition to my own clothes.

Live and learn.

Yeah, that one I don't mind...at least I will be assured he will be well dressed!

Yes, live and learn...thank you for teaching me such a great lesson!

she ironed everything in sight, even my underwear...until I made her stop that! :icon_pale:
lmao, I was talking with my mother a while back and complaining about how I have to iron now and she told me that my grandmother used to iron everything as well - including pillowcases, sheets, and *gasp* underwear. I find that hilarious.
