A T Harris is just about to close forever. They have been searching for a saviour but no one has yet stepped-up to purchase them.

Yet another sartorial tradition on the way out. It was always handy having them just above the old Press location.

Hail and farewell...?

Do you mean Metropolis?:icon_smile_wink:
That's very true...a little known fact is that AT Harris beat out a number of reputable Berlin haberdasheries as well as Knize of Vienna to become the sole costumer for the 1927 Fritz Lang masterpiece.

That metal cyborg woman outfit was actually available in the AT Harris shop from 1927-1933. Truth be told, it was quite expensive. Not a surprise though.

"Yet another great haunt of the SFRP falls..."

Very nice, Charlie.

My tuxedo is from Harris. Will everyone in New York have to wear pimped out, whacked out "formal" wear from Men's Wearhouse now? I could barely stand the thing I had to wear at my friend's wedding in March. Somehow, people cannot stop "expressing" themselves. Finding classic styles unadulterated just gets harder and harder.

If you want a quality peak lapel tuxedo, go to J. Press before the owners decide to screw it up.

Sad news.

I wonder if it's a reflection of how inexpensive, relatively, clothes are these days. People don't need to rent a dinner jacket if they can buy something from Brooks, Jos. Banks or (shudder) Men's Wearhouse that looks decent and doesn't cost much more than renting.

Last I heard Sidney Winston's son was sort of operating the old Chipp out of a desk at A T Harris; the firm now called Winson Tailors. What is going to happen to it?
Close to 10 years ago Winston operated out of a corner of Harris' 2nd floor premises (after they closed the Chipp location on the 2nd floor of 43rd and Madison). Winston is currently on the 5th floor of the same building.

I wrote to AT Harris Monday and got this reply yesterday. This morning I placed one final order with them for a new pique front shirt with detachable collar. $140. Brooks is about $100 more.

Thank you for your concern about AT Harris Formalwear Ltd. It is very unfortunate to inform you that our formal wear Company will be closing its doors for good. AT Harris will be open for business for the last time on Wednesday August 15, 2007.
Thank you again for choosing our Company for your formal wear needs.
Sincerely yours,
Percy W Sotomayor
