Hi Guys,

I have searched the forum, but I wasn't able to find any comments on the quality of Louis Roth suits. How do they compare with other more well known brands (HF, Oxxford, Brioni, and etc.)?

I am looking at what appears to be a nice looking DB Louis Roth suit on eBay, and the auction ends in about 22 hours from now. So I'd appreciate it if someone who knows about this brand could enlighten me.

Thanks in advance !!

Chaim

Depends on the vintage.

Before the '90s it was somewhere akin to Hickey Freeman in construction quality.

Louis Roth/Le Baron had kind of a California swinger goes to Vegas for the weekend pretending to be a high roller styling. Or, Tony S. and the boys would have been customers in the '80s.

The name was acquired by a firm that specializes in labelling once respected brands on third world manufactured garments, proffered at discount stores at very low prices.

At least that's the most recent emporium I noticed a Louis Roth suit.

I've no information on Louis Roth in the 80s, just the 60s, when it was a highly respected label. Definitely not like Hickey Freeman. A Louis Roth suit in the 60s could easily cost over a $1000.

I can't tell from the photos, and 2 are red x-ed on my computer.

I would not want to speculate on the vintage or quality from what I can see in the photos. Don't have me loop.

If you're a 44L, a 31" inseam may be a bit short.

There's no buttonhole in the left lapel.

There does not appear to be a middle buttonhole should you want to button the middle button, rather than the lower button stance.

The lapel edge appears to be bluff, without stitching.

On the other hand, lined to the knee trouser might be a good sign.

"Excellent" is the seller's lowest rating.

The seller only ships to the US & Canada, aren't you in Israel?

JamGood,

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I am in Israel, however I do have a friend in the U.S. (Brooklyn) who will accept my packages and then finds people coming to Israel who will bring it. That is how I have received all the suits I have purchased over the most recent period.

I also noted that the seller rates this suit with his lowest rating. However, he does state that there are NO obvious flaws, and from the pictures the suit seems to be in a fairly descent condition. Currently it is bidding at $36. I would be willing to up the ante a little. With regard to the inseam, I am actually a 32, but since these are cuffed I don't mind lowering the cuff.

Thanks,

Chaim
