So as I posted before, Canali is launching a new MTM program in the US beginning with the Beverly Hills Canali store. They claim that the Beverly Hills location is the first and only company owned Canali store in the U.S. as of now.

I went to the MTM event last weekend and then went back again this weekend. They waived the MTM upcharge (15%) at the event. I was somewhat worried that the Canali MTM program would be little more than ordering separates with alterations like some programs, but I found that there was more substance to it than I initially thought. I ordered several suits and blazers. I picked out the fabrics from a large selection, the cut (two button side vent with one of their less slim pairs of pants), whether I wanted a vest and what style, an extra pair of pants with each suit, etc. I know one guy even ordered his pants without back pockets! They will also do unlined suits with additional visual handiwork and a number of other items.

Maybe Canali was out to impress me, since I was blunt with them in my initial skepticism with their program. We started out with a 62L jacket (US 52L) and pants from a 60L suit. They altered my pants width at different amounts at different parts, changed my jacket length 1.5 cm longer, and made a range of other adjustments that impressed me. Now this may not be custom, but I was convinced that there was a lot of merit and value to the program.

For me, MTM Canali represents tremendous value. With a waived surcharge, it is the only thing that will get me to pay full price for a Canali and feel good about it. I think it represents the same kind of value in many ways that WW Chan does down in a slightly lower price range. If you are willing to spend 30-40% more than Chan and like the idea of a great fitting 100% Italian name brand suit like I do, I would recommend them. Having looked at various other MTM programs on Rodeo from a number of other designers like Ralph Lauren, etc., I think Canali had one of the lowest price points.

As an added bonus, I got to meet Giorgio Canali (one of the owners and grandson of the founder). He was at the store on a special trip that day. I talked with him for a little while about clothes and various other things. He even took a look at the fit of my garments that I was trying on.

I received excellent customer service at the store from Sheldon (my sales rep) and Steve (the director of Canali US sales). Steve appears to reside out of this location and was the one who took my measurements a second time around to verify everything was correct. Yes, I was putting in a large order with them, but they did whatever it took to make things right and address everyone of my concerns.

I will follow up with a review once I get my garments as that is the ultimate test. Also, I wanted to mention that I call them like I see them. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to report a negative experience.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

How much did one of the suits cost you? When will you be receiving the items? Do they make slim suits and or slim shirts?
6 weeks from the second week of fitting. So I think about 3 weeks to receive. I don't know about slim suits and slim shirts as I don't order my suits or shirts that way. Their MTM program is only for suits, sport coats, pants, etc. Shirts are not part of the program for now.

However, the original Italian tailor (first weekend) put me in a much slimmer pair of pants and one size smaller on the jacket. So I would call them and ask them about what it is you are looking for.

Suits with the 15% MTM charge waived (due to the event) were no more than off the rack. Canali will typically run anywhere from $1495-$1795.

What vest styles does Canali offer in their made to measure program?

Any vests with a lapel? Also, does Canali's MTM program have as much flexibility as Oxxford's, Brioni's, Attolini's and Kiton's MTM programs?

And, when will Canali's more extensive MTM program make it's way to other stores such as Marsh's in Huntington Village, New York, Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, NY and Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station, NY and Barney' New York in NYC, NY and Manhasset, NY in the Miracle Mile shopping Center?

Also, do Canali's vests have the 3/4 inch upside down V shaped openings at the center of the bottom of each side of the vest like all of Oxxford's, Brioni's, Attolini's and Kiton's vest styles have?

Yes, I ordered a vest with two of my suits. The vest was $350. You definitely can get them with a lapel even though I did not. There was pretty good flexibility in the program. Working button holes, no back pockets, etc. I don't know about when the program will expand beyond Canali Beverly Hills. I think they may be planning a NYC store next. I am not sure about the 3/4 inch upside down option on the vest, but I think there were like 6 vest models to choose from.

You may want to call Sheldon at Canali Beverly Hills for more info. If he has to, you can ask him to talk to Steve (US Sales Director for Canali that works out of that location).
