I, too, love Madras, and the season began some time ago in Austin. I wear long sleeved Madras shirts including those from Andover (OMTC) and Castaway. I have an old Madras Corbin jacket I wear pretty regularly. i only have one Madras bowtie. It is from High Cotton. When you see something you like at OMTC, nab it. This year's stuff is only here for the season. I was kicking myself but fortunately found what I wanted elsewhere.

I still remember the first bit of Madras I ever got: a long sleeve button-up shirt. Gauzy, bleeding Madras. I was in 10th grade.

The shirt was from India, a gift from my Dad, and it seemed impossibly exotic. “It’s from India!” I boasted of it to my friends.

Amazingly comfortable. Cool. This was maybe 1982 or so, long enough ago that an old school building (mine) had actual windows you could open and substandard heating and air, but sitting next to a window and wearing the Madras made conjugating tenses and solving matrices far more bearable.

I wore that shirt to rags.

This arrived today.
Not ready for full presentation, it's currently soaking in a bucket of hot water to loosen it up. She be quite stiff. Fairly new I guess. Sleeves need taking up as does the body. I'll be a while fiddling with this. It's in the queue though. Will be ready by the 4th probably, as will the peas, if you plant 'em early.

I couldn't find this on BR website. It's not the same as in the first pic? Bleeding can really change colors.

If you look for Atlantis, an Indian distributor, they have a small number of bleeding patterns. You can search for them on their website. Obviously, you have to have someone make it.

Just now saw the above. I've been away. Where, you ask? Any place but here. Certain members can figure that one out. The jacket, yes it's from Banana Republic, but that's not where I got it. It came from one of the second-hand on-line sites, though it appears to be new. I paid 40 bucks shipped, somewhat more than I like to do. So I cut back on Little Debbies that week. It's not the same as the madras I first pictured in this thread, that's from Palm Beach. The Banana Republic one, which you apparently like and I was really smitten with, 40 bucks smitten, but I won't mention that again promise, is unique, colorwise, meaning the colors are earth tone and somewhat dark. I've taken some better photographs and they appear below. I've also not done any work on it, yet, so it won't be ready by the 4th, nor will the peas since I just remember I didn't plant any.

The jacket is completely unstructured, with no canvassing or fusing. But if you look carefully at the breast pocket in the photo above, you'll see puckering. That's because there's a strip of fusing at the very top of that pocket. This can be ironed out with a spritz and a very hot iron. The wavy lines you see are moré effect from the camera.

Below, the full deal. As mentioned in the other post about this jacket, I dunked it in a bucket of hot water, then hung it to dry, even though the tag said Dry Clean Only. Yeah, sure. Since the jacket is somewhat big on me, I could not detect any shrinkage after the hot water bath. And the reason I dunked it was to loosen it up, it was very stiff, probably with factory sizing. I also want to be able to wash the jacket in hot water once a season or so, so I dunked it before any alterations are being made. In my experience, most things that shrink, shrink only once.

Are you familiar with the Google Lens feature? I don't know how it appears on a PC, since I don't use one, I'm exclusively on this Samsung A13 cell phone, but when I call up Google Photos, which if you don't have I strongly suggest you get, at the bottom of each photo will be the word Lens. If you click that, a page of similar looking items to whatever your photograph displays will appear. Let me show you with a screenshot what this looks like.

Then when you hit Lens the page below will appear. You see three jackets identical to mine, with links to each. One of those goes to the actual one I purchased from Poshmark. Another goes to eBay, but clicking that shows it's already sold. Using Google Lens is a swell way to find certain items.

Looking at the above post, just realized at the very bottom there is a postage stamp size black and white that wasn't supposed to be there, but since it is I should explain what it is. It's a photo booth picture of me when I was 4 years old with my grandma. I might as well blow it up so you can see the full thing.

You're familiar with the Stones' Honky Tonk Woman? Well that was Gram, to a T.

If you're logged in, the above post falls in the proper sequence, if you're not, it becomes a standalone and makes no sense even though it makes no sense even if it's in the proper sequence so Good night and Good luck.

What is Madras?
Howard, It is a lightweight cotton fabric, originally from India, that became very fashionable in the late 50's and 60's which is still sought after. It is almost always plaid and you can see samples of this fabric type made into sport coats in the previous posts on this thread. It is usually a summer fabric that is often made into shirts. Hope this helps.
