Any recommendations for brands/stores to buy the best suit for my money? Willing to spend $500-700 but only if it has great quality wool (nice drape and hand) and and a nice, but subdued design. Fit is important too, but fabric is even more important for me. Looking for timeless design (nothing too fashion forward or showy). Considered buying online, but not so good at telling if a suit fits me right or not. Still would consider it though. Is Nordstrom a good place to buy? FWIW, I live in Queens, NY, but willing to travel to Manhattan or Long Island if I can find a good bargain (without spending oodles of time).

If you are comfortable ordering and having the suit tailored, Spier & McKay in Toronto do good work. Note, their slim fit stuff is quite slim, especially the trousers. edit: apologies, I skimmed and missed your point about ordering online. Maybe give the other thread a read, ask some questions, and/or send Rick (the owner) a note. He's very agreeable and good to work with.

I have one of their suits, several shirts and trousers, and they are well regarded as a very good value proposition in a thread on the other forum.

So BB is my only option?
Of course not. I just saw last night a Hickey Freeman suit at Dillards marked down to $540. Too rich for a suit I don't absolutely need, but I also know that they frequently offer all of their clearance goods at 40% the clearance price. Nordstrom, mentioned above, should have some nice things in that range.

BB is a good option if there's a store near you. You can shop their clearance stuff online. The store will help fit you, and they'll order in a suit on clearance.

Will a higher super number (e.g. super 110s) result in a better drape and better hand for the wool or not necessarily? Is a fused canvas really that much of a big deal if the fabric is quality and the suit is stitched properly? Which brands are worth buying at Nordstom? Ted Baker? Are they a good value or am I just paying for the name? Anybody try Suit Supply? Heard about Benjamin too, but when I go to ehaberdasher.com I hardly see any selection.

1) no.

2) in my opinion, yes. It will drape better. Also, why use really good fabric for a fused suit? It's like drinking 18 y/o single malt scotch mixed with a coke.

3) depends on your budget. Nordstrom sells Samuelsohn. That a good place to start.

4) Ted Baker? Just say no.

5) Stay away from online.

Lower super numbers (100s) drape better and a more durable and higher super numbers (150s) have a better hand. I think super 110s - super 120s has the best balance of hand, drape and durability.
