So I need to get some new dress shirts for work. I currently have a few of JAB traveller shirts. I am thinking about getting some Brooks Brothers shirts as I was approved for their store card and will get 15% off my first purchase. Now the question I have is: are their shirts worth the cost at only 15% off? Are they better quality than the JAB traveller shirts?

To me, they are worth the cost. They are much better than JAB. I have both brands and I will replace all of my JAB with BB. You get what you pay for.

I'd wait for the Christmas or Fathers Day sale when they will be 40% off.
I will probably buy more then as well. But I need a couple of new shirts now. So I was thinking about getting 2 or 3 now and then get a few more when they do their christmas sale. I was just wondering what the consensus was on the quality of their shirts vs. the JAB shirts I have now. I have had my JAB shirts for about a year and they are wearing nicely I just want to have more shirts so I don't have to do laundry as much. I wash my shirts instead of dry clean them. I also need to get some new pants as well. But prefer to get pants that can be washed as well as I really don't like dry cleaning.

Check their current sale offerings, too. Some items 50-70% off. If there is something there that you like, grab it. The big discounts tend to come on styles with limited stock and some hit and miss with sizes. There's some of the now discontinued Black Fleece stuff mixed in there. If the fit works for you (tends toward the trim side of things) and you like the style, the price is right. The BF oxford cloth is a heavier weight than their standard oxfords.

I wear Brooks Brothers dress shirts almost exclusively, although I still have a JAB hanging in the closet from when I formerly wore them. I think BB look and feel better and are tailored better. I find BB non-iron superior to JAB Traveler, which is over-rated as wrinkle-free in my opinion. Unfortunately, I give the edge to JAB for durability. I have purchased more than one BB with minor fabric flaws and find that BB tends to wear and fray faster at the cuffs, cuff pleats, and front placket. Nonetheless, the appeal of the BB results in my buying them despite what I consider to be their fragility and some QC errors.

I have bought many BB shirts over the past few years and haven't paid more than $65 and have plenty of their $120 original priced shirts also. Just need to watch the sale section.

I always try to buy them in quantity during the best of the annual sales and have been wearing Brooks Brothers shirts for dress for about as long as I can remember. They have served me well, proving to be good looking, comfortable and sufficiently durable to convince me of their good value! Nuff said. ;)

I never buy anything at Brook Brothers for less than a 25%-30% discount. Shirts? I almost never buy any that aren't 40% off, sometimes 50% off in the clearance section.

I do believe your 15% discount for the new credit card is stackable on top of other discounts. At least it was for me a few years ago.

As BB prices increase, their shirts become less attractive and not as good a deal as before. Even with the volume discount, they are approaching a price point where one would do well to shop around.

That's actually how I came upon Kamakura shirts a few years ago. On sale, however, they're not a bad deal, particularly their US made shirts.

BB shirts really don't seem worth it to me, especially when compared to Kamakura. The cloth on an $80 Kamakura shirt blows away anything you could get from BB at that price. But Kamakura doesn't have all of the size and fit options that BB has.

Well I ended up buying a couple of BB shirts. I am curious for the people who have BB shirts do you wash them at home? If so do you follow the instructions to wash warm and tumble dry low? I've always washed my JAB shirts and then hung them up to dry and ironed them. But I see the BB shirts don't say they can be ironed since they are supposed to be non iron. My worry is that putting them in the dryer will shrink them. I guess if I use low heat like it says they shouldn't shrink?

The store on Madison Ave has a better selection than online so when I go to NYC I make sure to stock up. Still though, you're right, they have a limited selection of patterns and sizes.

I was in there recently and could not find a single shirt that was what I was looking for. Then I went to Kamakura and was far more impressed with the selection.

Wash, Dry, remove promptly and hang. I don't think non-iron shirts shrink at all.
