This does seem like undercoating hokum to me as well. If the expendable rugged sole is so devastated by abuse or regular wear, the upper will be in equally poor condition, so why bother with miracle oil at all?
Are we really suffering irreparable sole damage on otherwise good shoes?

Whilst I am not familiar with the Saphir product (I may add some to my next order) I have used Collonil sole tonic for many years now. Does it prolong the life of the sole? Blowed if I know but at a measily tenner a bottle I'm willing to risk it.

Won't anything that keeps water out also keep water in?
I'm totally unswayed by this idea that the motor honey is going to seep all deep into the hard dense sole and somehow make it impregnable to moisture and contaminants. My feet produce water and salt too...
This seems like tire rotation. Hey, spend $x and you'll get negligible extra wear worth much less than that!
