I've gotten some stains on my khakis and I've noticed that the stain comes out but so does some of the color of the pants. It becomes lighter in the place I was rubbing out the stain. It also happens with my jeans sometimes too.
I only use water and a cloth, no soap or anything.
Anyone got a better idea
Thanks

^This is pretty much safe and what I do. Soak the area in water before any treatment. Try to minimize abrasion. I'll often gently use a toothbrush or nailbrush under running water.
Some dyes are just less stable, and some stains do different damage and require different remedies. Generally I'm googling for serious things, as I can't remember what's best for mustard or grease or whatever. Peroxide for blood I remember.

OxyClean has always been my go to. .
^ This.

Also, I keep literally two or three of the Max Gel sticks handy. They are very good - be sure to test on your clothes first, though I've not had any issues. They've gotten out grease stains from steak, wine stains, sweat stains, and other accidents. Be sure to apply it and let the stick gel dry over night, then wash.

^^Indeed, Oxi Clean is a good place to start, but to a greater extent the approach used to remove the stain is dependent on what the specific cause of the stain happens to be!
I entirely agree with this, and for actual stains (not just a grease spot) I use Stain Devils, which have different formulas for different types of stain. They are not inexpensive, but neither is my clothing.

Thank you very much for posting this. I had never heard of Stain Devils and just googled them. I'll try the appropriate one on a stained pair of BB chinos that I put away hoping for a better product than Oxy Clean.

I've had excellent results with them, for many years. Most recent was ink marks on a dress shirt that had already been through the commercial laundry before I realized they were there. Dry cleaner said they couldn't be removed.

It required repeated applications and some extensive (gentle) hand rubbing, but the stain is gone, without any trace. (In fact, I cannot now tell which shirt the marks were on.)

I have all the Stain Devils--and also Amodex ink remover which works a bit better than the Devil ink remover. I use an old electric toothbrush head and an old white towel under the stain. It takes a few applications, but it works. Probably would whiten teeth as well...

Simple Green, a bristle brush, some light circular scrubbing, and a cold water wash did it for me. Just go easy on the scrubbing. Light, circular motion...
