FYI-Trickers has several of their country brogues in the "Retrickers" store the The Bay deeply discounted.

I own Bills moleskins and they are among my favs. They are all tailored at a half break with 2 inch cuffs.....

Works well to show off the shoes.....:)

Mr. Tocqueville,

Do you own the Strand or McNeil or an equivalent?

Also, what boots are in your arsenal?

Please advise.

Thanks

Mole skins are inherently casual trousers, imo. I'm not sure there's a huge discernible difference between cords, moleskins, chinos, dark denim etc. I'd wear anything from a stormwelt tricker brogue derby to a suede Oxford with those to dress them up/down. As long as the shoe isn't too dainty looking.

I suppose I should just take a group photo...

Excluding my hiking boots, I own:
1. AE Malvern chukka in dark brown calf
1. AE Stanford chukka in snuff suede (great autumn shoe, and perhaps my best choice for the moleskins)
1. Rancourt chukkas in dark brown suede (see below)
1. Rancourt chukkas in peanut suede (see below...a different style from the other chukka)

I'd LOVE a pair of walnut McNeils...Strands as well. I've purchased three pairs of Strands and have not been able to get the fit right...the 5 last defeats me. So no Strands. In fact, I've more or less put a freeze on shoe purchases until I figure out my size. As strange as this sounds coming from a 43-yr old with two dozen shoes, in my efforts to figure out the 5 last, I learned that my feet are not the size I thought they were, or perhaps they changed, and once I started paying attention, I realized that none of my shoes fit me well. Those I have fit acceptably well, but only that. At some point I'm going to bite the bullet and go to an AE store, which is my best chance of getting a professional fitting...though in exchange for spending far more than I normally do. All the above shoes were deeply discounted -- 2nds on sale, or etc. etc. That's also why I don't pull the trigger on a Loake, etc. from overseas. The brannock device says I'm a 8E in one foot and a 7.5EE in the other, which may or may not mean I need a UK G fitting, and I'm sure that in any case I'm one of those people for whom a good fit will depend entirely on the specifics of the last.

Do these PC moleskins have material to adjust the waist and what is the cut of the trouser, ie, could a 32 be let out for the purpose of maintaining the 32's leg width? etc.
I don't know, but they are amply cut and have a sort of comfort waist extender thing built into the waist...suggesting to me that there's what to work with. Would any photographs help you answer the question?

Hmmm......interesting.......

I am a 10ee on one foot and 10e on the other. The 5 last in 10ee is the best fit for me. Have you tried a 7.5eee?

Trickers can be had at reasonable discounts as well.

Nevertheless, you have a decent shoe/boot wardrobe.....

Search out STP.....

I tried an 8E but that didn't work. I'd really like to try the 7.5E or EE. Most of my shoes are 8.5Ds, which is what I thought my size was, but that only works with some shoes/lasts, and those, I've realized, don't really fit correctly.

Those Rancourts, by the way, are wonderful shoes. I recommend them highly.

You might do well with a Strand MTO on the 7 last if that fits you better. The toe box is a bit wider than the 5. The McNeil already comes on the 7 last. I have 2 and also a McNeil5 when they briefly produced it. They both fit fine, the slight difference in shape is only apparent when you place them side by side. On some recent thread I posted pics of the Nathan next to the 5th Ave. which shows the subtle difference between the shape of the 5 and 7 last.

I have pics of the waist band in post #85 of the Mythical trousers: Cavalry Twill thread. These are the same waist band as the moleskins.

Moleskin is a country fabric, pair with country items: loafers, pebble-grained shoes, tweed, a shotgun and a hunting dog.
Loafers are country? Moleskin needs something more substantial to balance it out, like full brogues, preferably in the derby style with double leather soles. Classic country shoes will work, and I agree that pebble-grain is good. Chukka boots or derby boots would also be great.

Thanks, What I want to see is a pic of the area(interior)where a split waistband would be,these I assume dont have a split waist band due to the "extenders" but if there is "let out" material there, at the rear, then I'm not against "freezing" those "extenders" if desirable, and may even consider thinning the legs. Considering this because of the good report PC molies have about the desirability of the cloth ,

I have several pairs of shoes that most would agree are suitable for wear with suits or tweeds. I rarely wear suits. I wear everything from tan EG chelseas to Rancourt ranger mocs with lug soles with moleskins, cords and, Levi's. Last weekend I wore burgundy Vass budapesters with dark green moleskins. I think a lot depends on shoe color. while I wear tan EG Chelseas with casual pants. I would not wear similar black captoe oxfords with moleskins or other casual trousers.

In my view, one ought to take into account what else you're wearing. For example, I don't think lug-soled boots would go well with some sportcoats which one might wear with moleskins or even Levi's.

Regards,
Gurdon
