I'm guessing that Barney's house brand shoe quality has a generally low regard for the price around these parts, but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with their shoes. Anyone know who makes them?

I don't have a Chelsea boot from anyone and they currently have one for $75 (down from $660). Now, would that even compare to the general quality of AE's? Probably not, but at $75 it's at least worth thinking about.

You can rest assured that they will be better than anything remotely close to that price range. I was just looking at Barney's 75% off of clearance price sale items. There are some really good buys if you are into that style of clothing. Where else can you order brand new green Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Premium Ox shoes for less than $10 per pair???

Of the house branded shoes, Barney's is probably the best value, especially at a discount like that.

I'm actually a big fan of Barney's and shop there during their sales. Of the big department stores, they are the most "boutique" like and one can find designers that just aren't seen in either neimans or saks.

I almost bought the boots you're looking at but am a 9, which they were out of :(.

Back to the original question, I'd say some are very well made, others are quite mediocre in terms of quality (but are very comfortable, which is why I'll still buy on discount). The ones retailing for $600+ are Goodyear welted while the lower end ones (retail for $3-450) aren't. The last expensive have replaced the old Co-op line and more higher end ones have been introduced to compete in a different tier.

There was also a beautiful pair of cognac monk straps, as well as a perforated cap, all under about $100. Had I not just bought a new pair similar on the latest RL sale I'd have been all over those.

I'd say anything in the house brand is a good buy under $100, the higher end ones are an absolute steal and if they have those boots in your size grab those puppies; if they don't fit in sure you could sell elsewhere and get at least most of your money back.

These are an outstanding value. Limited sizes, unfortunately:

Please post a photograph of yourself attired with your new finds.
I've always liked the idea of C&J house slippers, but I think my wife would say I've become bit of a dandy.

(I do need to wear some form of shoe or slipper in the house, as we have mostly wood or tile floors, and the hard surface will cause another bout of plantar fasciitis.)

That is very upmarket compared to my usual - I wear a pair of my wife's old navy plastic nurse's clogs when indoors. I wear a 10D shoe and my wife wears a woman's 11, so the clogs fit. She will occasionally appropriate a pair of my boots to shovel the driveway in winter, but this is as far as we go with shoe sharing! :)

My auto is vintage 2009, and I love my driving mocs. But they're not the nubby soled variety.
But do you wear them for driving? My tongue-in-cheek point was that if you don't have a car for which driving loafers were intended, then their next best role is as house slippers.

I'll admit, I have a couple pairs of RL suede loafers which are technically driving loafers, but have a full rubber sole, so I just wear them for everything in summer. Not a ton of support, but at least the leather doesn't get wrecked on the bottom.
