While 95% of my shirts avoid logos, I have two BB sports shirts with the logo and it looks pretty good to me, but it's only two shirts but on those particular shirts they are pretty sweet looking. I mostly have BB dress shirts and no logos on those, and I love the BB dress shirts of course.

I have 3 Ralph Lauren dress shirts, while I may prefer no logo, I kind of like it. The Polo logo is pretty nice on a certain dress shirt and Andy would agree.

In general, I prefer not to have them and avoid them - I don't want to advertise for someone and I want my clothes to be noticed, if noticed at all, for their quality, tastefulness and appropriateness, not because of the brand.

That said, I'm okay with small logos on the back of chinos, the Levi's tag on the back of its jeans (they'd look naked without it) and Paul Stuarts "Man on the Fence" logo discretely placed on a casual item (like a casual sock or sweater) because it is so well designed and is not well known (so it does't feel mass marketed). I'm also okay with a tone-on-tone logo - I have a Brooks Brothers polo in off-white that has an off-white logo (you don't see it unless you look right at it and it looks embossed - it feels elegant, like fine stationary).

That said, like with most things in life, seeing them on others doesn't bother me unless it's obvious that someone is a logo fanatic (as that draws attention away from the clothes themselves).

The odd thing is, I actually like the BB logo, and the RL logo as well. I just don't want to flaunt them. As wfhoen says, it's vulgar. Crass. I've managed to find a few polos by Paul Stuart, Robert Talbott and Bobby Jones that don't have logos and like them very much. Unfortunately, I have to live with a visible logo on my Barbour Bedale, but it is not prominent. Same thing with my Sperry Topsiders.

For some reason, the RL logo drives me nuts, I guess because you see it so often. Kind of like the Nike swoosh, I suppose.

It's funny that you mention that. There is a, uhh, "gentleman" in my Constitutional Law class who never fails to walk in on Mondays and Wednesdays wearing a Polo polo, some sort of Polo sweatshirt/track-jacket monstrosity, and backwards baseball cap with a giant Pony logo right in the middle of it. He would look like a walking billboard but I'm not sure Ralph Lauren would approve of such a move, even! We're over 50% finished with the semester and I'm still not sure if I should cringe or laugh.

That's when it is just silly as, to your observation, it draws your attention away from his clothes and you end up just seeing a jumble of logos.

Separately, to your what logos do you like aesthetically thought - while not on the clothes, I like the BB Golden Fleece a lot and, as mentioned, I love Paul Stuarts "Man on the Fence" as it is a beautiful drawing regardless of its logo status. And I love the Izod croc because I think it looks good, it has been around so long that it doesn't feel logo-y to me and I love its heritage (as the nickname of the tennis player Rene Lacoste who first started wearing it on his own clothes and, then, later created the company - that is true heritage.). There are some others, but most feel "salesy," fake or forced to me.

I've just about completely had it with logos and the baggage that comes with wearing them. I'm currently in the process of replacing items in my wardrobe that I once bought because it was from a certain brand and not on it's own merits.
