I would consider JAB a good men's store for your purposes, at least if it's like the one near me. There, people will pay attention to you and take measurements. They will help you. You don't have to agree to buy anything. I've yet to buy anything at JAB because I never like the fit or the material, but I always walk out impressed by the service. Not all stores are alike, of course, but it's worth a shot.

Send him a PM on this forum and ask what he's got in stock. Or you can go to his website at https://www.tweedmansvintage.co.uk. Keep in mind that the prices on his site are in British Pounds and may be slightly more expensive depending on exchange rate. For exchange rates, go to www.xe.com.
I think you may be getting US-based Tweedydon confused with the UK-based Tweedman. To find Tweedydon, head over to the AAAC Informal Trad Thrift Store Exchange thread, where his latest items will be listed. His prices are excellent and his descriptions impeccable, in my experience.

I sure do. If you're willing to spend time shopping, eBay/Marshall's/TJMaxx is your best bet. If you're not, then check out Anderson Little for a blazer and Jos. Bank for anything else. Men's Wearhouse is last resort.
Mens Wearhouse carries Joseph Abboud and Jack Victor - which are much better than the Calvin Klein / Tommy / Perry Ellis crap you will find at Marshalls and TJMaxx.

JAB is slightly better than Mens Wearshouse....but that wasnt what my post was about.

Marshalls and TJMaxx also have been known to carry Hickey Freeman and even Brooks Brothers. These stores can vary and are unpredictible, which is why I predicated their first priority on one's willingness to spend time shopping. You are certainly right that MWH is a better bet if you're not willing to make that effort, since I agree with you on the brand comparisons.

I think they require a lot of effort. I pop into the local Marshall's from time to time. Yes, they have Brooks, but only, say, 5 suits. So what are the odds of one of them being something that fits? It would pay off if one went regularly, or perhaps was interested in flipping stuff to others, although it might not be so easy to establish the bona fides of the item in question. I thought the Brooks suits I found there to be suspicious with regard to quality/construction. What were they? 346 irregulars?

Thanks for all the help. I had a mens wearhouse gift card from someone so I went and got 2 jackets from them using the card. I'm looking for some more, but based on your recommendations I am going to keep looking for a better jacekt.

To start off, I am a senior in highschool. I have a fairly limited budget and am just looking for a few sports coats that can get me through the next year and a half. I have done my research and know that I am getting a 100% wool sport coat, and what style and fit I am looking for. I have been shopping around and haven't found any jackets that even relatively fit because of my awkward size (6 foot 4 and 160 pounds) I know men's wearhouse doesn't have the best quality, but they have had the only sports coat that fits me in a way that it can be altered to fit well. Do you think a Mens Wearhouse sports coat would last 1-2 years of once a week use? If not do you have any other suggestions?
A cheap well fitting suit will always look better than an expensive ill fitting one. If men wearhouse jackets fits you better than the other brands suggested, then you made the right choice.

MW is usually better than Marshall's and the like, yes. And I am confident that (esp. since the OP is a 40L, maybe verging on 40XL) they can fit him.

But I would recommend strongly against the Wilke Rodriguez unless you have no other option. The Wilke is our bargain basement brand, and unless you found a surpassingly old one, they are usually an 85%wool/15%poly blend. Even at the ~$100 price, you might be able to find better.

The reason I mentioned the Wilke Rodriguez is because I have an acquaintance that works at mens wearhouse. I told him that I needed a navy and a grey/charcoal sports coat and he said that his store was fazing out some of the lower quality jackets. I have a $150 dollar gift to spend at mens wearhouse and he said if I bought one of the higher quality jackets he showed me (somewhere in the 125-175 dollar range) then he could give me the Wilke Rodriguez for just the cost of alterations. In the end I would be getting the cheap WR sport coat, one of the higher quality grey sport coats, and alterations for under $100 alterations costs out of my pocket. Since I will only be using them a couple times a week for the next year and a half I figured that was a pretty good deal. What other brands would you recommend from MW?

Ya, same with me. I've never had luck at those two stores. I don't know if I have a more common size or what but I've only found nice brands like that in the really really oddball sizes.

The Joseph and Feiss or Calvin Klein navy blazers are both adequate, and all-wool. I'm not entirely sure what deal is being given here, but the sale running is Buy One Get One Free...which means if you buy a jacket at retail, you can get an equally good jacket free, not just a cheaper one. Availability may be lower on hand (a lot of sportcoats went on clearance this spring), but I generally try to stick with all wool if at all possible.

As another poster mentioned however, fit is the most important issues. Better a mediocre jacket that fits you than a nicer one that doesn't.
