I love Stan Smiths, but hate when they lose their pristine whiteness. So now I go with Converse All-Stars (sorry, Chuck Taylors). They're available in every color under the sun, my current pair are black nylon, part of the John Varvatos "designer" All-Stars (but apart from being not the usual canvas they look the same). I got them to see if they will remain looking "newish" (they should, being nylon instead of canvas, but time will tell). For a TSA-compliant pair I'm also looking at the faux-laceless variants, but haven't pulled the trigger on them yet.

They remind me of the Dunlop Green Flash that you just had to have when you were a kid, back in the days before Nike etc.

I have no recommendations for leather, but for canvas sneakers I prefer CVO's as being a bit more adult-looking (to my eye) than the styles already mentioned . I just got a pair of Sperry Stripers, which I'm pretty happy with so far. My next choice would probably have been Vans.
