Typically I wear athletic/tank top/wife beater white ribbed undershirts. I started thinking what I'd like to see in an undershirt and came up with the following:

  • White
  • Ribbed cotton
  • V Neck
  • Sleeveless (Athletic cut) wide shoulder strap, high arm holes
Why this shirt? While a ribbed V-neck would almost get there, I really don't want/need the sleeve. Underarmour has some shirts with the cut, but they are polyester.
Any suggestions?

Meets all of your requirements ... but you didn't give a price range. If price is a consideration, this is probably not the right one. Details are .

Another view:

Nice shirt but it's still not what I'm looking for, no Vneck and I'd like the shoulders out further.
With the shoulders farther out, what you seek are normally called 'muscle shirts', not tanks or wife-beaters. With a v-neck they are frequently termed "husband-beaters".

Thanks ada8356 for recommending our RibbedTee undershirts!

Mrp,
I have not seen a wide (2x1) ribbed sleeveless v-neck muscle shirt on the market for some time now. In fact, the overall market selection of muscle shirts is very small, but there are a handful of v-neck muscle shirts out there you might want to consider, including:

Jocko Men's 'Nick' Two-tone V-neck Muscle Tops - 3 pack. (Overstock.com) Wide ribbed, but 2-tone.

. Ribbed, but is a 1x1 rib (fine/baby rib).

C-IN2 Zen Mesh Strong Arm V-Neck Muscle Shirt (Amazon). Not ribbed, but the rayon/cotton blend is surely fitted and lightweight.

2xist Sliq V-Neck Muscle Tee. (HisRoom). Not ribbed, but a stretch blend.

While buying our ribbed v-necks and cutting off the sleeves (or removing the stitching from around the armhole) is an alternative, you'll be left with an undershirt without a clean hem or trim at the edge of the sleeves. Functional however, yes.

While I would love to be able to offer up the ability for you to special order some sleeveless v-necks from us, we'd have to have a fairly large order for us to be able to justify the effort involved in managing a custom order.

Hopefully one of the muscle v-necks I mentioned above will work for you.

Mikel thanks for getting back with me, if I were to chop the arms I'd have gone back and refinished them. Interestingly enough when I met my wife she sewed a great deal, I bought her some sewing machines over the years (regular, serger), now it seems I use them more than her, even used commercial canvas machines for some large projects over the years. The alterations I do on my own clothing is done mostly by hand at this point.
I did order a pair of your ribbed tee and one micromodal tee to give them a shot as is (I used the AskAndy coupon) this past weekend. They should be here latter this week and I'll let you know how the work out. I really haven't been able to figure out the micromodal aspect, could you offer an explanation?

Hi mrp,

Sounds like you're awfully handy with a sewing machine! If you decide to remove the arms of our undershirts and refinish the edges, it would be fantastic if you'd be so kind to share photos of your work! I think it would be fun to see.

Regarding your question about MicroModal - Without getting into specifics about the fabric itself, the key benefits of using the fabric in a garment (undershirt) are: silky feeling on the skin, 3x-4x more absorbent than cotton, holds its color better, and more durable so it'll last longer.

The only real downside to MicroModal is that it's known to pill, something that cotton does not do. Most manufacturers blend MicroModal with Spandex to add stretch and reduce the pilling.

We've opted to stay away from using Lycra/Spandex for the time being, and create the stretch naturally with the fabric using ribbed fabric (1x1 and 2x1 rib) instead.

To add strength to our MicroModal 1x1 rib undershirts, we've opted to blend them with 50% American grown Supmia Cotton (Extra-long staple cotton grown in the USA). Supmia is not only strong and non-pilling, it's also the one of the softest cottons currently available. We also like the fact that it's grown domestically.

At the end of the day, we want to offer undershirts that are unique, something you can't buy anywhere else, those that solve a problem, offer a tremendous value for the money, and are made in the USA.

I hope you like our line and look forward to your feedback.

The MicroRib gets high recommendations from me. I've worn it for hours without sweat showing with a light blue shirt.

Mrp: Thanks so much for the update. Look forward to seeing how your experiment turns out.

Jovan: Sounds like that extra absorption power of the MicroModal is doing its job well :)
At this point I'm sold on the ribbedtee, At 6'1" the length is good. 45" chest/36" waist the Large fits me well. A fresh shirt in the AM will be conform to the me, at the end of the day the arms will open, I'd actually go for a bit more length in the arm but this could be an issue for others. At this point I'm trying to figure out which to go with full time, regular or micromodal.

That's fantastic to hear MRP!

Great information, and I'm glad you brought this up. We are prototyping some small design changes that will hopefully help the arms maintain their conformity a bit more. We have made a conscious decision to avoid using spandex/lycra in our undershirts, and without going into a bunch of gory details about fabric behavior, recovery, and weight, the fabric relaxes a bit more than I'd like it to.

The great news is that they wash back down to size wash after wash. That said, we are working toward implementing some minor improvements and slight design updates by Q4 2011.

At this point I'm trying to figure out which to go with full time, regular or micromodal.
That's a tough one. Our MicroModal undershirts will hold their form better, but our Classic Fit shirts are just so dang cool and comfortable to wear too. I personally switch off from day to day and go between all our lines.
