Can anyone tell me what the fit is like for Jack Victor blazers? Are they like a HF Madison, BB Madison or Regent, Arnold Brant, or what? I am thinking of ordering one online and wondering what the fit is like. The impression I have is that JV is more of an American fit like HF, but one of the reviews says it is a 'European' fit. Usually I wear a 46 with a slimmer suit (like BB Regent, Canali or Isaia) but 44 with a looser fit like HF Madison, or 43 with BB Madison. My chest is 45, shoulders actual 19", actual waist is 41" at navel, wearing size 36 pants. I would ask STP what the measurements are, but it will take them a few days to get me an answer and I want to order now :)

Any thoughts?

I knew that would be the answer of course, but STP doesn't list the model. From browsing the threads, some people have said the suits are American cut, some say boxy, some say loose like HF. Are they in general American cut, or do you know the different labels and cuts? Thanks.

One of the boutiques I buy from carries Jack Victor. Every JV suit jacket and sport coat I've tried on has been big and boxy to the extreme. HF don't fit me well because they are too boxy, and the same-size JVs are voluminous in comparison to HF.

Valutowood is boxy, Napoliwood is trimmer, but when something is on STP I have no idea of knowing how old/new it is. This could be a discontinued model that I have not seen in years. Personally, I wouldn't dream of buying something on-line that I haven't tried on or already worn. My recommendation is to go to a retailer that you trust and shop with him.

Victor's "L" bodies are their fullest cut. A roomy, classic American look with a soft shoulder.

The "V" bodies are trimmer in the waist than the "L", have a little more padded, structure shoulders, and usually feature side vents. Trimmer but not tight.

The "N" and "D" bodies are a contemporary fit with soft, unstructured shoulders, reduced waists, shorter jacket lengths, narrower lapels, and slimmer sleeves. They are dramatically slimmer than the "L" bodies, but should fit a man in good shape pretty true to size.

All my Victors (10+) are L bodies and a 44R fits me spot on. I can also wear the V, but don't like the extra structure in the shoulder. I have to wear a 46 in the slim bodies.

If this:

is the one you're looking at I'd be willing to bet it's an L body. I've never seen a V with a single vent, and because it's fully lined I'd wager it's not an N or D. If it is an L I think you'd do well with a 44.

Thanks Mr. Mac! Very useful. Actually I am looking at this one as a summer blazer. It has side vents and says soft, rounded shoulder and to me the lapel looks a bit on the narrow side. It may be the slim body and I might need to 46?

How do you know what body it is, is it on the tag or label. Thanks!

I received the sports coat. Looking at the sleeve tag, I am not sure of the body style. The model is Valutowood SPJ, so I assume that is the V body. It is a bit trim, side vents and more structured shoulder. Wish the shoulder were a little softer, but I think it is a keeper, I like the fabric and fit. I will try to post a picture.

The tag is white and says Jack Victor Collection. It is half canvassed with a nice thick canvas, but I believe it may be unfused or the fusing is very fine. The fabric is a wool silk linen blend and is very nice. Doesn't seem to be bemburg lined, which would have been nice since I plan to wear this for warmer weather (Scottsdale).

I recently bought a JV blazer from STP - navy Loro Piana S120 fabric, pewter (look) buttons. The overall cut and size was accurate - my 42R was indeed the same 42R I'd get at a mall store. It had normal middle-of-the-road RTW sizing: neither "slim-fit" nor baggy. I needed the same alterations I need on almost everything I buy "off the rack": shorten the sleeves, drop the collar, take in the waist ... about $100 at my tailor.

I'm glad to hear you like your new blazer. I love Victor as an everyday suit label. FWIW, to my knowledge all JV's are lined with Cupro Bemberg Rayon. All of mine are, although the linings have a little different hand than my other bemberg lined coats.
