My feelings exactly. I am an Anglophile for only a certain value of Anglo. If I was a member of the landed gentry I wouldn't even have a flat in London.

Meh! Several London clubs have reciprocal memberships with American clubs. True, some of the American clubs are prohibitively expensive but several are not. The University Club of Portland is exceptionally reasonable. I know. I belong. And should I find myself in London (or any of a large number of major cities worldwide) I can use the reciprocity to my advantage without 'blaggering', whatever that is.

    Yes, this article is silly.

As an avid "tourist" and a member of a NYC based university club, I have reciprocity at numerous London clubs as well as nearly 50 others around the world. I don't visit nearly as many as I used to, since I prefer to spend my time in foreign lands eating in world class restaurants as opposed to drinking white russians and reading car magazines by a fire as a guest in a club.

And my annual club dues are in the three figures. Small money.

    Cheers,

    BSR

For whatever it's worth, none of the clubs in question have nude dancing, so cannot truly be called a "gentleman's club". Check the rules!!!

^ tda, you were in Atlanta too long .

As a senior in college and just after graduation, I spent a few nights (and too many $) in the Gold Club and the Clermont Lounge.

    Cheers,

I was actually a witness in the Gold Club trial, having been subpoenaed by both the Government and defense as an expert witness on the Georgia and Atlanta alcohol codes.

As to the Clermont Lounge, in the 70's, I went there with an FBI agent to identify an Army deserter. There were seven dancers working there that night who between them were possessed of thirteen boobs.

Vast difference between the two clubs. ( FWIW, the Gold Club was located at the site of the defunct Lovable Bra Company.)
