I am thinking Hackett/Gant autumn-winter style: smart trousers (even jeans), check sports-shirt (buttoned collar)
Corduroy jacket is too casual for formal trousers, in my opinion.

This is from another newb, so take it with a grain of salt, but I've had good compliments on corduroy jackets with all sorts of pants this winter - khakhis / chinos as well as grey wool dress slacks. Almost always with an ODBC underneath, but a few times a nice sweater.

Of course. I don't currently have a cordouroy sportcoat, but I used to wear a tan one with grey flannels and a blue or pink OCBD. A striped tie would work, as would one with a sporting or heraldic motif.

I would wear a cord jacket with grey woollen flannels-do they count as "dress pants".

I would probably wear a corduroy jacket with the same range of things that I would wear tweed with.

I think the term and concept of dress pants is not universal, but rather generally understood in the U.S.A., as it's origin is in the U.S. RTW business, to mean better tailored trousers most often of wool as contrasted to jeans or cotton drill.
In that context, sure! Many flannels can look great. I even have a pair of gray P.O.W. flannels that look good. Gabardine and other twills such as covert cloth look good too. Many colors from the brown/tan and gray families of colors tend to pair well with colors often used for corduroy jackets.

I wore a corduroy jacket with wool pants for many years. These days I tend to wear them with jeans only but that isn't because of any objection to the wool pants.

Of course, seems odd to be in doubt.

I think it looks good.
If you don't mind me tacking on another question, how do you all feel about wearing corduroy jackets w/ differently colored corduroy pants?

Corduroy looks good with almost any pair of trousers.

I think the main problem w/ this pairing is that you'd have to be wearing a denim jacket to begin w/. Unless you have the sleeves ripped off and a patch on the back, that just isn't reasonable.
But, yeah, I see what you're saying... I will probably try the look anyhow once I find a corduroy jacket that I like. I find I like to match colors of my jacket and pants much closer than most so it might work for me.
