'Tory Toffs' get morning dress a bit wrong
Has anyone else been following the hilarious 'Tory Toffs' story in the press?
As a protest against the possibility of the Conservative party winning the marginal Crewe and Nantwich seat in the forthcoming by election, Labour activists have been attempting to ridicule the Conservative candidate (One Mr Timpson, of the Timpson cobbler empire) by dressing as 'Tory Toffs'.
The 'toffs' are seen wearing hired morning coats, ill fitting trousers, no waistcoats, unbuttoned jazzy kipper ties and button down collars, with naff grey felt toppers and canes (I don't think canes have been part of morning dress since about 1925, and anyway, one should wear gloves with them).
It reminds me of those 'anti capitalist' demonstrators who try to dress up as 'capitalists' and put on some sort of ill fitting cheap suit with clumpy boots, and their hair slicked back in a pony tail.
The trouble is, people like this always get it wrong, making it as ridiculous as a Conservative attempting to discredit Labour by wearing a flat cap and holding a whippet. Amusing, but a bit of a feeble attempt to create headlines which has only really backfired, as the campaign has now been withdrawn.
