Will Vass be too wide a fit for me?
Hi forum members. I am coming to the experts once again for advice and input. I am approaching a decision to purchase two pair of Vass shoes; the U last monk strap in black, the U last whole cut in black. I have a rather narrow heel and usually am fine with a more narrow last, thus my reason for selecting the U last, aside the sleek, refined look. Can anyone tell me if you own a Vass shoe, your experience with the fit, whether it is a wider fit than other makers. I would appreciate any first-hand insight. They are beautifully made shoes yet quite an investment. I want to ensure that I can enjoy them fully! Thanks.

The Vass U-last is the narrowest of the various Vass lasts. As a result, some find that they can't wear it. However, it is probably not a particularly narrow last in the context of the usual letters, A, B, C, D, and E, we use to index width. I too have a narrow foot and have found the U-last a very good fit. In my experience, it might equate to something like a C/D US, but others (like Andrew Harris, for example) can undoubtedly give a more precise answer. Paging AHarris....

Thanks Roger. It sounds as though I may be fine with the U last. I do wear a a D (Medium) width in other Italian made shoes -- Ferragamo, etc. I look forward to Al's input. One other question, do have a lace-up or slip on style, monk?

The Vass U-last is narrow. Take it from those of us who aren't!
If you're an American D you should be fine.http://www.CustomShirt1.com

I have three pairs of laceups and one of the monk shoe. They're all fine. If you're normally a D-width, the Vass U-last won't be too narrow. However, there are other aspects to fit that are less predictable, and a shoe that's the right width can be a miserable fit for other reasons. Is there any chance you could try on a pair before ordering?

The US rep, Gabor Holmes, is going to arrange that for me. I am awaiting the arrival of new samples in my size. So, with all I have learned so far and the opportunity to try the fit, I am more confident that it will be a good investment. Thanks for all the help. I will keep you posted.

I'm a D width, and Vass U fits me well. Of their lasts, it's the best one for a narrow foot. When I visited them in Budapest, they wouldn't even let me try on the F due to its width relative to my feet.
