This company makes mocs, boat shoes and loafers in Chicago, they hand make them using horween chromexcel leather and they really are great looking shoes.

This does it for me because its American made, generations of cobblers, local leather etc. and the best part is the shoes have some interesting design cues like boat shoes with a sort of off-road sole etc. and also available in dark Navy which looks great.

The negative comments were bad enough, but the post by a Quoddy employee killed any interest I had in their products. However, I still wanted a pair of gray desert boots (suede chukkas) and looked around for something sturdier than the current flimsy Chinese Clarks but not as clunky as my Timberlines. There were fewer choices in gray than in tan/sand/taupe etc., and I settled on the LLB product - $89 with free shipping. After close examination and a few miles of walking, I judge them to be just right. Memory is a great improver, but I think they may be close to what the English-made Clarks were. These are definitely for informal wear. I cannot yet summon the courage of some here to wear suede chukkas with a suit.
